WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Agriculture Department on Friday quarantined a second herd of cattle in Washington state in connection with the first U.S. case of mad cow disease, as cattle producers scrambled to minimize damage to the $27 billion industry.

The cattle industry, reeling from the discovery of the deadly, brain-wasting disease, on Friday withdrew objections to tighter controls that would prevent sick animals from entering the food supply.

I know it's not actually called la maladie folle de vache over there, but maybe the bushies will adopt it to describe the problem here. After all, the foreign bogeyman has worked before, why not in describing a US-based problem? Maybe they'll re-name hamburgers "parisburgers" and cheese burgers "fromageburgs" in the House cafeteria!!

5. IT is true..consumer protections take a back seat to profit

whether we are talking auto manufacturers, cows, medicines or everything in between...hell.....I've even heard of some that have injured themselves eating something as harmless as a pretzel..:evilgrin: you'd think they'd have developed a little empathy but NO!

The Atkins diet had beef prices soaring & now this. In the current land use battles, cattle ranchers are much more desirable than the abundant mineral extraction or the vista-destroying ranchettes.
