Trade ideas sparked by trip to Cuba

By GEORGIANA VINES
Knoxville News, Tennessee
December 27, 2003

U.S. Rep. Lincoln Davis, D-Pall Mall, went to Cuba on a trade mission for a specific Tennessee agricultural company and says he came back with ideas that may help other state businesses.

... Davis was on the trip with Oakley; Jim Sasser, former U.S. senator of Tennessee and former U.S. ambassador to China; and 6th District U.S. Rep. Bart Gordon, D-Murfreesboro.

... The congressman believes all types of trade should be resumed with Cuba.

"I believe America should take down the embargo," Davis said. "It opens up an avenue for agriculture. The country won't be more productive than the U.S. It won't be more competitive, and it might give us an edge to be a customer."

Another Tennessee congressman, U.S. Rep. John Tanner, D-Union City, was part of a bi-partisan group that went to Cuba earlier in the year as members of the Cuba Working Group. That group is pushing for changes in American policy toward Cuba, including opening up the country to travel.

1. Interesting news: 2 Democratic Congressguys
Being in the Midwest, I've never heard of them. It's great hearing they are joining the GROWING crowd of Americans interested in getting this mess straightened out as if there were some sensible people, finally, manning the helm for our side.

Foreign policy should NOT be dictated by our half-wits.

2. Those "half-wits" include Liebrman, Graham, Kerry, Edwards, Dean, Clark

and their supporters who prefer to ignore the MAJORITY and pander to the Miami mafia minority instead.

3. Trade with Cuba a hot topic in Bush's home state!
Cuba trade seminar set for Jan. 7

December 28, 2003

EL CAMPO - The Texas Cuba Trade Alliance, in partnership with Rice Belt Warehouse and Drying Co., will host an educational seminar on trading with Cuba on Jan. 7 at the El Campo Civic Center.

This will be the first of many educational seminars to be conducted around Texas.

The Texas Cuba Trade Alliance was formed in 2003 to educate those interested in trading with Cuba, which is a large market for rice and other agricultural products. (snip)

(snip) "After traveling to Cuba and meeting with Cuban officials, I see a great new market for Texas rice and other commodities," Reed said. "The Cubans want our products from Texas because they still remember the time we enjoyed successful mutual trade relations. And I think that they just like Texans and Texas farmers. This seminar will open the eyes of many who don't know that we can sell agriculture products to Cuba right now."

They don't seem at all impressed that their ex-Governor has been threatening to invade Cuba, do they? Their Texas Legislature passed a resolution the very year Bush went to Washington stating a wish to end the embargo on Cuba.

He just doesn't have many people on his side other than some damned peculiar politicians and a violent Miami Mafia.
