New Hampshire InsiderJay Buckey, a professor of medicine at Dartmouth and a former astronaut, announced today that he has entered the race to represent New Hampshire in the U.S. Senate.
“I’m deeply concerned about the direction our country has been taking under the current administration,“ said Buckey, a Democrat. “I’m running for the Senate because I want to use my background in health care, the military, and technology to help get our nation back on track for the future.”
Buckey advocates a new ‘Apollo program’ for energy research in the U.S. “If we really want to end our military involvement in the Middle East, we must break our dependence on foreign oil. This is not only an environmental issue, it’s also an economic issue and a national security issue.”
“We need to bring businesses and the government together to move our country from fossil fuels to safe, renewable energy sources,” he said. “This is a huge undertaking, but if we work together we can do it -- and this is an important issue for our campaign.”
