BELGRADE (AFP) - Former Serbian police general Vlastimir
Djordjevic, wanted by the UN war crimes tribunal for crimes
committed during the 1998-1999 Kosovo war, has been
arrested in Montenegro, a tribunal official told AFP on Sunday.
"In cooperation with the prosecution of the ICTY, Montenegrin
authorities and Serbia, Vlastimir Djordjevic has been arrested
in Montenegro," Anton Nikiforov of the prosecution office of
the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia
told AFP by telephone.
"His transfer to The Hague is underway," Nikiforov added.
Djordjevic, 58, was believed to have fled to Russia in 2001,
right after discovery of several mass graves containing the
remains of hundreds of Kosovo Albanians throughout Serbia.
He was Serbia's deputy interior minister and police commander
during the Kosovo conflict, and was loyal to late Serbian
strongman Slobodan Milosevic.
