House Republican wants to restrict Pelosi’s travel
Source: The Hill

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will not be permitted to use State Department funds to travel to nations that are known to have sponsored terrorism if a Republican amendment to appropriations legislation passes the House on Thursday.

The amendment to the $34 billion State and Foreign Operations bill, offered by Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), prohibits funds to be used to travel to Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan or Syria.

In a “Dear Colleague” letter released earlier today, King said Pelosi had overstepped her constitutional role as Speaker when she traveled to Syria in April.

“Taking her cue from the Iraq Study Group’s recommendation that the U.S. enter into talks with Syria to forge a new way forward in Iraq, Speaker Pelosi decided to ignore the requests of the President that she refrain from traveling to the terrorist state,” the letter said.

8. Great! Firmly slapped down, by a generous margin.
The story on his brilliant amendment idea has already been added to his Wikipedia:

Rep. King

To refresh memories of how stupid he has always been, here's a quick reminder:
~snip~
....the Des Moines Register on Sunday (10/9/05) led off its Opinion section with the following headline: “Spare us more embarrassment: Replace King.” You may recall that the Register had twice previously endorsed King for Congress -- in 2002 and again in 2004 – but apparently is now beset by feelings of great remorse. “Like a citizen who can’t recast a vote,” the Register’s Editorial Board confessed, “an editorial page can’t take back an endorsement. But we can express regret and urge voters in the 5th District to replace him in the next election.”

The Editorial Board went on to warn of King’s increasing drift towards the furthest fringes of right-wing politics, and pointed to an ever growing list of alarming acts on King’s part: his dismissal of the torture used against Iraqi prisoners as simple “hazing,” his central role in attempts by Congress to insert itself into the Terri Schiavo case, his patently bigoted promotion of “English Only” bills and an anti-immigrant fence along the U.S.-Mexican border, his pointless battle against naming a California post office after a local community activist, and his recent characterization of the late Senator Joseph McCarthy as “a great American hero.”
(snip/...)

10. GOPer's Amendment To Prevent Pelosi From Consorting With Enemy Suffers Crushing Defeat
Edited on Fri Jun-22-07 11:52 AM by RamboLiberal
Yesterday we brought you the news that hapless GOP Rep. Steve King of Iowa -- fresh from his efforts to build on our southern border the sort of electric fence used for livestock -- was planning to introduce an amendment to prevent Nancy Pelosi from consorting with the enemy.

The amendment -- attached to appropriations legislation -- would have prohibited Pelosi from using State Department funds to visit Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan or Syria.

Well, King's measure was voted on early this morning in the House of Representatives. And it went down to a crushing defeat. The final tally: 337 noes; 84 ayes.

Needless to say, all the Democrats voted against it, thus confirming once again the party's uniformly traitorous bent.

However, only 84 of 201 Republicans voted for the measure, suggesting that many Republicans, too, think it's okay for Pelosi to consort with the enemy. Go figure.

9. Notice
Notice how he used "Taking her cue from the Iraq Study Group’s recommendation that the U.S. enter into talks with Syria to forge a new way forward in Iraq" as something negative?

What a maroon.
