palo alto onlineRep. Anna Eshoo, D-Palo Alto, has called for a federal investigation into the role that Vice President Dick Cheney had in diversion of water from the Klamath River Basin in 2002.
The diversion killed 80,000 salmon and devastated commercial salmon fishing in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties, Eshoo said.
Eshoo and 36 other members of Congress from California and Oregon on Wednesday requested hearings on the issue by the House Natural Resources Committee that came after a Washington Post news story reported that Cheney pressured officials in the Department of the Interior to divert water flowing into the Klamath River Basin to benefit Oregon farmers.

"The vice president is not above the law or immune from Congressional oversight," Eshoo said.
