AP: Neil Bush Makes 1 - Day Stock Windfall
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 2:58 p.m. ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Cashing in stock options before the market crashed, presidential brother Neil Bush made at least $171,370 in a single day by buying and selling shares in a small U.S. high-tech firm where he had previously been a consultant, according to tax returns that give a glimpse into his business dealings.

The July 19, 1999 purchase and quick sale of stock from Kopin Corp. of Taunton, Mass., came on a day that the company received good news about a new Asian client that sent its stock value soaring.

``My timing on this transaction was very fortunate,'' Bush told The Associated Press.

Bush's profit was a slice of at least $798,218 that the president's younger brother reported on his tax returns from three transactions involving Kopin's stock.

16. That was Marvin:
Edited on Wed Dec-31-03 04:42 PM by Minstrel Boy
the Bush boy who was on board of the Kuwaiti-financed company that provided security for the World Trade Center, then left and joined the board of one of its principal insurers.

Marvin, I seem to recall, had something to do with the Baseball Hall of Fame flap surrounding Tim Robbins.

Hard to keep the kids straight.

Edited on Wed Dec-31-03 04:35 PM by SpiralHawk
in his hotel room in Thailand?

The same guy? The pResident's brother?

Neil "Silverado" Bush? The guy we taxpayers bailed out with millions of our dollars in the Savings & Loan scandals?

If so, then no problem. He has an "ethical disability," or so his lawyer says.

So stop picking on him.

Like his brother George, he is "special" and deserves "special treatment."

23. This is stock options
Edited on Wed Dec-31-03 05:06 PM by Yupster
From many of the comments, I get the idea that many people do not know what stock options are.

When you exercise stock options, you almost always do the buy and sell in one day. Nothing unusual about that.

If he caught the very best day to do it, that would be unusual, but the buying and immediately selling is just what happens when you exrecise your options.

On edit -- most brokerage firms will allow you to exercise your options "cashless," so you don't even have to come up with the money for the buy.

The Relatively Charmed Life Of Neil Bush:
Despite Silverado and Voodoo, Fortune Still Smiles on the President's Brother
http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A35297-2003Dec27?language=printer

Neil is now in a company called (get this) - "Ignite!" - with the exclamation point as part of the title. It's just another scam company set up for another POS bush-loser kid. This time, Neil is going to make money off his brother's Leave All Children Behind (and pick their parents' pockets while you're at it)Act!

Apparently, this scam writes (ahem)"educational" programs, but it's all crap! Here's one of my favorite parts of this article -

But at Whitney (High School) reviews were less laudatory. "The kids felt pretty strongly that what this was about was lowering the bar," says Humes (writer Edward Humes).

Humes wasn't impressed, either. "There was a lot of rhyming and games," he says. "It reminded me of what my son uses -- but he's in kindergarten."

When Bush spoke at Whitney, several students began arguing with him.

"He was very surprised," Humes recalls. "You had to see the look on his face when one young woman got up and said she liked calculus. He said it was useless. This is the branch of mathematics that makes space travel possible, and he said it was useless."

BWAAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! No wonder Freepers love this dysfunctional family!!!

Here's my other favorite part about his divorce from Sharon -

Neil's friend Spalding was calling reporters with a choice morsel of his own: Sharon had yanked hair out of Neil's head, Spalding said, so she could make a voodoo doll and put a curse on her ex-husband.

"It was bizarre," Spalding says. "She literally pulled his hair and yanked it out of his head. He told me about it."

Sharon admitted doing that and also said she collected some from his hairstylist's floor. But it was not for voodoo, she told the Houston Chronicle. Neil was acting so erratically, she said, that she wanted to test the hair for signs of drug use. The tests were inconclusive, she said.

I, myself, believe the voodoo story. Of course, Sharon would deny this because it sounds screwy. But it would be the only way to deal with a satanic bunch like the bushes - and you all wonder why everything seems to go their way! Just ask Nancy Reagan why she used to be in constant communication with her astrologist, and she made absolutely sure Ronnie never did ANYTHING, not even hold a meeting, when the signs were bad. Of course, everyone thought Nancy was nuts and it was quite an embarassment, but once you know the bush family, it doesn't seem quite so nutty!

Unfortunately, this article does not mention it, but Neil was the one who was scheduled to meet with Hinkley, Sr. the night Hinkley, Jr shot Ronnie.

38. I found a penny this week ... heads up ...
:eyes:

$171K would have turned life around though ... but, that's the luck of 'the haves', and just pocket change for them and Neil ...

how did Neil qualify to be a consultant to a semi-conductor company? must be his high-finance finesse and ability to 'network' ...

Bush says he first came in contact with Kopin when he was a consultant for an Asian company, Telecom Holdings, a telecommunications company whose executives wanted to invest in the United States.

with all his legal bills, what a stroke of luck to opt on just the right day ... it was probably a cloudless day, too ...

3/4 of a million altogether from the Kopin stock ... $798,218 ...

so few are given so many opportunities -

shame they don't care about building quality businesses and bedrock for America's security ... only their personal short-term $ gain
