Bush Cites Democrats' 'Angry Attacks'
http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/politics/7608160.htm?template=contentModules/printstory.jsp

President Bush cited "angry attacks" by Democrats in a fund-raising appeal to potential donors on Wednesday.

"The pace of the presidential campaign is picking up and we will soon know who the Democrat nominee will be," Bush wrote to supporters, asking them for a "special contribution of $100 or $50."

"Whoever wins the nomination will have done so by energizing their party's left wing with angry attacks," Bush wrote.

The e-mail letter previewed what is likely to be a theme of his re-election campaign: that his Democratic opponents offer only criticism, while Bush is laying out what he called in the letter an "optimistic, compassionate conservative philosophy."

His message was indirectly aimed at Democratic front-runner Howard Dean, who some Bush advisers predict will turn voters off with his attacks on the president.

Once we have an actual nominee we all have to fight like hell to support him and get our message out. I have a preference but I'll support any of the current Democrats in a fight against Bush. It's vital we all do.

12. "Angry Attacks" = Truths Told
But, since GeorgieBoy has the leading support of white males in this country, (according to the polls), we Libs are really just out to undermine his BS Regime and create divisiveness.

Wouldn't it be great if all the organizations and their members that seek the truth about this administration all came together in DC?...shades of Abbie Hoffman and the Nov. 15, 1969 rally

19. What really scares them
is that R's have always been able to count on Dems to be turned off by anger and negativity in political campaigns. The Lee Atwater generation always knew they could stifle voter turnout for Dem candidates with negative campaigns.

The tables are turned now. For the first time in a long time, Dems are truly angry and all the negative campaign tactics right wingers used to count on won't work anymore.

They're scrambling, trying to come up with something that will switch Dem voters back to their passive mode, and its not working.

24. I suspect quite the opposite is true
They want the Dems to be angry and aggressive in attacking because the Bush re-election plan is to paint Democrats as "out of touch" and turn independents off to them by saying "look at how rabid these people are." Are we in the right to be angry (and much more)? You bet your ass we are. But will it win us election in 2004? I'm not so sure.

38. The old Ronald Reagan "morning in America" approach
I agree with you, worldgonekrazy, about what they want. They are happy to see the Dems angry and they will try to paint them as rabid and out-of-touch. They will try to paint themselves as the hopeful, optimistic choice. The real question is whether they can pull that off while continuing to strum the fear & terror strings, with war looming over their shoulders. And I'm not sure they can. I'm also not so sure that anger will win for us in '04 but I'm also not sure their fake optimism will win for them in '04. What I am sure about, however, is that the anger is good for the future of the progressive community. So many people have woken up and they aren't going to go back to sleep again. That's good but whether it will be enough in November 2004, I don't know.........

20. Blame Democrats first.
Edited on Wed Dec-31-03 04:56 PM by flaminbats
Then use public tax dollars to finance no-bid contracts and "compassionate" right-wing religious zealots to lay the groundwork for winning the election. Next pass taxcuts to destroy public education, a stable dollar, and our nation's infrastructure. Make our nation vulnerable to future attacks by spreading our military thinly throughout the world, and by closing needed local military facilities. And again blame the Democrats for the coming terrorist attacks, an ever-growing intrusive government, for higher unemployment, higher and more regressive local taxes, and for record deficit spending.

That the peace & prosperity that we had under a Democratic President became war and unemployment under the current regime. We failed to elect Al Gore, so it really is our fault that Dim Son is the worst President ever.
