Mexico puts guards on flights

MEXICO CITY — Mexico has placed armed, undercover police on flights to key destinations in the United States, Alejandro Gertz, the public-security minister, said yesterday, a day after the United States said it would order foreign airlines to place marshals on flights.

Mexico began putting undercover marshals on Mexican commercial flights last week but declined to say how many or on which flights.

Gertz said the measure was taken in consultation with the U.S. and Canadian governments.

A top official at Mexico City's international airport said special attention was being placed on Mexican airline flights to Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C.
