Dean has plans to bring House Under Democrats
http://www.theunionleader.com/articles_showa.html?article=31023

PETERBOROUGH — Although Presidential candidate Howard Dean had just rallied a crowd of about 800 at the town hall, it was during a stop at the Peterborough Diner that the Democrat let slip he has larger plans than just his candidacy. In response to a question by the Union Leader, Dean said a plan was in the works to bring the House of Representatives into Democratic control next November. Republicans currently control both houses of Congress.

“There is a plan to change 20 to 25 seats,” the candidate said. “The House leadership will help select a number of swing seats. We plan to target those and help fund those races.”

At his earlier campaign stop at town hall, Dean wasted no time lambasting President Bush, starting with recent scandals in the mutual fund industry.

“I have said that capitalism without rules is like hockey without a referee,” Dean said. “Unfortunately, as we have been learning in almost daily revelations, some of the people who were entrusted with protecting the security of Americans’ savings were exploiting their power for personal gain while the authorities were asleep at the wheel. We need to restore balance to our system so that unchecked corporate power is not allowed to run roughshod over ordinary people. This President routinely appoints people from industry after industry to oversee their industry.”

3. It that the same as his plans to
have 3000 house parties at the end of the year (he had 1400), to have 2 million supporters (the total at his site is 1/2 million which appears to include past supporters), etc.

23. Oh, boy
now you've dinged my dinger.

I have stayed out of the candidate arguments up to this point, believing that some of this would finally cease. It seems that there are Democrats who don't give a shit whether or not we get four more years of Bush; they're so worried about their choice being the nominee, they can't see the forest for the trees.

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE BURNING CONSTITUTION! YOUR LOSS OF PRIVACY AND CIVIL RIGHTS! THREE MILLION JOBS LOST IN LESS THAN FOUR YEARS! WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR YOU PEOPLE TO WAKE THE HELL UP?!?!

>have 3000 house parties at the end of the year (he had 1400),<

How many did your candidate have? The measly 1400 house parties also raised half a million dollars.

>to have 2 million supporters (the total at his site is 1/2 million which appears to include past supporters), etc.<

Your point would be what?
How many of Dean's supporters are not online?
How many of Dean's supporters are like my husband and I, who had NEVER given money to a political campaign previously?

The only Democratic candidate I will not vote for is Lieberman. The rest, I will hold my nose and mark the circle by their name on the absentee ballot. If you want four more years of Bush, keep it up. If you want CHANGE, perhaps you'd best spend more of your time campaigning for your choice, and less time bitching about Howard Dean's overwhelming success.

Julie

5. I am a Clark supporter
I think he can win, and I do not think Dean can. But it is certainly enjoyable to listen and watch him hit the current appointed administration dead on. Keep campaigning until November, Dr. Make them squirm in every state you are popular. We as a party need you campaigning in the rust belt, new england and the west coast.

18. Ha great poll
Edited on Sat Jan-03-04 12:37 PM by Powerlock
Lieberman doing better than Clark and Kerry. Obviously one of the most reliable polls ever.

According to this Lieberman and Dean are about equal. Amusing.

I'd expect as much from an organization that is known for polls such as "Should the new york mayor execute bin laden?" and "Are democrats too angry?"

I also notice the lack of Dennis, Al, and Carol. Another instance of the mess media choosing our elected officials.

21. Lieberman over Kerry & Clark
Never underestimate the power of name recognition. That's really all that's going w/ Joe, the average voter does not pay any attention to primaries.

15. Well put!
I have almost the mirror outlook from you. Love your guy but think mine stands a better chance of winning.

I say all the candidates should give Bush* hell! And keep doing it.

6. Exactly what needs to be done
I hope that the other candidates are seriously considering of adopting this strategy. And, Doctor, may I suggest that we target John Boozman (R) of Arkansas to be one of the bozos to go?

7. Gov. Dean wants to help the whole Democratic Party while most of his
opponents seem to be interested only in their own candidacy.

I receive mail regularly from Gov. Dean's campaign, and I know he has already helped raise money for other Democrats in state elections, senate, etc.

When we vote, we need to look at the whole big picture - Gov. Dean is our man!!

Once again, Dean is not the "only one" who is doing this
He's just the only one who is getting publicity for it.

11. dean campaign
Dean is already thinking big, and talking about using his campaign to help Democrats win congressional races. Meanwhile, Kerry is mortgaging his house just to stay afloat, Gephardt is hoping to stop Dean with a cheezy cell phone attack in Iowa, and Clark is making bitter statements about how he would not accept the VP slot.

This is painful to watch- I hope Dean wins big in Iowa and New Hampshire and brings a speedy conclusion to the primary season. The others have embarassed themselves enough already.

12. Whoa...he used the word Capitalism?
Maybe I am all turned around on this Dean guy...

Also pointing out that 'equal' in principle is NOT equal everyday and there should be more balance to departments...

Since whoever the Democrats throw up will win, maybe Dean is not a choice afterall...

14. Could pick up two House seats in NC
I don't think that there is a chance in hell that NC will be targeted by the Democratic presidential candidate, but I do think that there is a fighting chance that we could pick up as many as two competitive House seats thanks to a Republican retirement and an incumbent Republican who has helped send textile jobs overseas after two reasonably close elections. Plus, Erskine Bowles has a very good chance of winning the Senate seat now held by John Edwards.

The Meetup movement is strong here and has brought many new enthusiastic people into the process, not just for Dean, but for candidates such as Kucinich and Clark as well. These folks will need something to do when Dean, or whoever the Democratic candidate will be, is staying away from the state. I take that back - one visit from Dean to NC could energize his followers to get out the vote anyway, and it is almost certain that Bush will show up here at some point during the campaign just as he did last year. If the Democrats effectively target the House races and campaign for these seats from the top of the ticket, we have a fighting chance of taking back the House.

16. I think you have it exactly
It is not so much Dean or Clark or whoever the next president is going to be personally campaigning in the "red" states, as it is the people who are willing to take back their country actually doing it.

It is a matter of us deciding to compete everywhere, in each state and each congressional district.

Sort of like what happened on D-day.
