Two Hired Omani Assailants Kill an American in Oman on Request by his Wife

MUSCAT - Police in Oman said an American man whose body was found last week had been killed by his wife and not politically motivated groups.

A police statement issued on the official Oman News Agency late on Friday said the man’s wife had hired Omani assailants to kill her husband, who works for an Omani oil company.

It said all three had been detained and confessed to the crime. The statement did not name the victim or the perpetrators.

The American’s body was found on Wednesday, the third Westerner to be shot dead within the last two months in the Gulf state. The US embassy in Muscat confirmed the killing but did not give a motive. A German tourist was shot to death in Muscat in early December. Another European tourist was shot and seriously injured in Muscat a month earlier. Omani authorities said the latter incident was a hunting accident.
