itself about what dean said in debate - see below transcript to see that Dean never never said "I opposed the Iraq war when everyone else up here was for it," - but that did not stop the AP from lying that he had said that.
And now the AP tells us all the Dems lied! -- I do love our non-right wing GOP controlled media!

Dems Go Adrift on Taxes, Trade in Debate
By CALVIN WOODWARD
Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) -- For a brief time in their debate Sunday, Democrats seemed to be hewing to a New Year's resolution to stick more carefully to the facts on taxes, the budget and more. But old habits die hard.
As in the past, Howard Dean declared, "Middle-class people did not see a tax cut," despite the lower tax rates enacted for all income levels and the higher tax credits for people of low and moderate income.
AP "FAILS TO UNDERSTAND" ?? DEANS SAID IN SAME BREATH THAT THE FEW DOLLARS OF TAX REDUCTION -$304 or less for 60% of us - IS SWAMPED BY THE INCREASES FOLKS PAY IN ORDER TO COVER THE COST OF THE TAX CUT. BUT AP LATER SAYS TRUTH - SO SPIN IS OK - AP SAYS DEAN EXPLANATION CAUSED "head scratching" - LIKE HELL -
Rep. Dick Gephardt of Missouri accused opponents on the stage of voting in favor of trade agreements that several had never voted on at all. But in defending themselves against Gephardt's misrepresentation, several neglected to mention that they had voiced support for trade pacts they were now criticizing.
AGAIN DID NOT HAPPEN IN THIS WAY - LYING SPIN.

By NEDRA PICKLER Associated Press Writer
JOHNSTON, Iowa (AP) -- In a feisty, first debate of the election year, Howard Dean drew fire from fellow Democrats on Sunday over trade, terror, taxes and more, then calmly dismissed his rivals as "co-opted by the agenda of George Bush."
"I opposed the Iraq war when everyone else up here was for it," said the former Vermont governor, invoking the issue that helped fuel his 2003 transformation from asterisk in the polls to front-runner. <snip>
Debate Transcript
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A54363-2004Jan4.htmlAND THE ABOVE AP LIES AS CAN NE SEEN FROM THE TRABSCRIPT RE: DEAN SAYING "I opposed the Iraq war when everyone else up here was for it,"
<snip> DEAN: The proper role of the federal government in education is not to pass bills like No Child Left Behind. I have two big policy differences with almost everybody up here. I opposed the Iraq war; with the exception of Dennis and Carol, everybody else supported it.
I opposed No Child Left Behind; I don't know how Carol would have voted, but I -- everybody else supported it.
The reason I oppose No Child Left Behind -- Joe Lieberman's right. There are some good things in this bill. One is something called disaggregation of scores, which helps low-income kids. But this is an unbelievable, intrusive mandate.
I talked to a woman who's a teacher the other day -- she was told by the federal government she wasn't a highly qualified teacher after she had taught math and physics and gotten the best scores for her students for 23 years.
This is a bill that ought never to have been passed. And what has happened -- this is why I am running for president. What has happened to so many Democrats in Congress is that they've been co- opted by the agenda of George Bush, who came into office with 500,000 fewer votes than Al Gore. And what we need is a Democrat who's going to stand up to George Bush. <snip>
