snip>LONDON (AFP) - Police in Britain were called into look into the car crash in Paris that took the life of Princess Diana more than six years ago, as it emerged that she had feared Prince Charles was out to harm her.

Opening the first British probe into the death of "the people's princess", coroner Michael Burgess (news) said he has asked the Metropolitan Police to delve into unrelenting speculation that Diana's death was more than just an accident.

Was this a fear of Diana's due to something that happened previously? What would make here fear Charles would want to hurt her?

1. Don't know for sure but
something about a divorce making Charles ineligible for the throne.

I dunno, all that royalty junk is lost on me.

10. I may be wrong
but, it's not Charles' divorce that would prevent him from becoming King, Camilla could not marry him and be given the title of Queen. As in the case of Wallis Simpson and King Edward. Public opinion may however be a factor in preventing Charles from marrying again.

2. I guess it never occurred to them...
That speeding through a tunnel and hitting a massive concrete post can cause you to DIE.

Yeesh, anything to get the heat off of Blair.

Sorry, but the Dianas of the world are a crashing bore--spoilt, stupid and basically parasites. Why DUers bother to get hooked on all this is beyond me.

Just look at the guy, hardly the machiavellian type, is he? The Diana story is over. Let it go.

4. Time for ERII
aka Elizabeth Mountbatten (nee Windsor) (nee Saxe-Coburg-Gotha) to call it a day.

The only reason Britons keep the monarchy is because they derive mondo revenue from it, mostly from US.

"No, let's not go to Camelot. 'Tis a silly place." :silly:

to distract everyone from the Hutton Report, soon to be released. Take a little heat off Blair and those pesky WMD claims that he used to launch an immoral war. Hmm, an intoxicated driver, driving fast through a tunnel at night just may have caused her death. Am I the only person who thinks that for all her good work, the Princess was also spoilt and unbalanced. I haven't failed to notice that when the going gets tough for Blair...the heat gets turned up on Charles.

8. Diana was a delusional bulimic drama queen
Charles is decent guy, maybe not the sharpest tack in the drawer, but he tries to do some good in the world.

He doesn't deserve this. He put up with more than most of us would have been willing to tolerate for years, from the sound of it. He had already divorced the lady and had no motive to kill her even if such a thought would have entered his tiny mind.

9. Charles is a certifiable dick.
He said he never loved her on television. What does that do to his
kids? Does he even get it that they would be hurt to know the mother they adored was NEVER loved by this idiot? He's a spoiled dork. I saw him in ? (Qatar) when the sex tape stuff was going and he had to take his shoes off before entering a room for a banquet. he was sitting on the floor like a one year old and a flunkie was untying his shoes for him. If I hadn't of seen it, I wouldn't have believed it. But what can you expect from someone who wants to be reincarnated as his ugly girl friend's tampon?

I remember when he went on television to say that he never loved Diana.

I immediately thought about the children.

Doesn't sound like something a "decent" guy would do to me.

15. of course he never loved her, the kids aren't idiots
Charles married Diana because for some idiotic reason of state he had to marry a virgin. No one was ever under any delusion that love was involved in that marriage. She was 19, she knew the deal, everyone did.

Children aren't fools. They know when their parents don't love each other. They deal with it.

He could have been a playboy and had any number of women like others in the royal circle. Instead, he apparently fell in love with and truly cared about one woman, even though she might not be conventionally beautiful, for many many years.

I think any of us could be made to sound stupid if our sex fantasies and private sex talk was broadcast far and wide.

I don't think being "royal" is good for anyone's development of intellect or emotional health, but he seems to handle it much better than some. At least he wasn't threatening suicide...how does that affect the kids?

18. whoa!!!!!
I'm not going to get into it with you about things I know nothing about.

My stand is that he went on public television to specifically state that he didn't and never did love his wife. It came out later that his father pretty much bullied him into the marriage.

He could have been a man and said, "no". Or he could have followed his sense of duty, and say, "yes". He chose the latter. After all, isn't that what the monarchy is supposed to be about? "Sense of Duty"? Discretion comes into play somewhere along the line. He quite probably could have had his cake and eat it, too. Worked for most of his ancestors. Why couldn't it work for him? Cause he's an insensitive twit, that's why.

I lost my father some 10 years ago -- I was very close to him. My mom and dad had problems, but he didn't trash her -- especially to the world.

Children only have two parents. For better or for worse -- they were the only parents those kids knew.

Charles was fucking irresponsible in trashing their mother like that, whether they fall into the "fools" category or not.

they persuaded the driver (who was supposed to be off-duty) to get drive really really fast and crash into the wall of the tunnel? What do you suppose was in it for him?

16. maybe he was Al Queda
Yeah...a suicide driver...that's the ticket.

I have to say, I watched a program awhile back with Patricia Cornwell talking about her "questions" about the case. I lost a lot of respect for her that day. She is trying to create something out of nothing. Isn't she rich enough?

Drunks drivers occasionally crash into things and kill people. It has been known to happen.

recreational tinfoil hatter, that the liklihood of this conspiracy theory even seems quite far fetched to me! And I believe every conspiracy I can get my hands on. :tinfoilhat:

I really can't think of how they would have pulled it off.
