Mistrial declared in Spector case
Source: LA Times

The jurors, split 10 to 2, tell the judge they are unable to break their deadlock. DA's office says it will retry the record producer, who is accused of shooting actress Lana Clarkson in 2003.

<snip>

"The murder trial of Phil Spector ended today with the jury unable to decide if the legendary music producer had killed an actress he had known for only a few hours before her body was discovered in the foyer of his Alhambra mansion.

On its 12th day of deliberations, the jury of nine men and three women told Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler that it could not reach a verdict and was split 10 to 2 after six ballots. It was not known what the majority favored.

The jurors were asked by the judge if there was any hope of reaching a verdict. Each said no in the hushed downtown Los Angeles courtroom where the shaking Spector, 67, has been on trial since the end of April.

Fidler declared a mistrial in the latest celebrity trial in Southern California to end without a conviction. Spector will remain free on $1-million bail."

5. Hey you live near me.
That is more interesting to me than who didn't get convicted for what crime they may or may not have done. In all truthfulness I don't really know anything about this guy. Sorry to have agitated you. Peace, Kim

3. Who is being diverted?
It doesn't seem like anyone cares about this trial of a washed up old recluse.

13. Spector jury favored conviction; D.A. plans retrial
<snip>

"Prosecutors said they will retry legendary music producer Phil Spector after a jury was unable to decide whether he was guilty of second-degree murder in the shooting death of actress Lana Clarkson.

Attorneys return to court next week to discuss legal options, but prosecutor Pat Dixon said he had told Superior Court Larry Fidler of his plans to go ahead with a second trial.

Fidler declared the mistrial after the jury deadlocked 10-2 on its 12th day of deliberations. Jurors said later that most of them favored conviction, but two believed the defense scenario that Clarkson might have taken her own life.

Spector was poker-faced. As he left court with his wife, Rachelle, she linked her arm in his with a look of relief on her face. Spector said nothing to reporters before he was driven away."
