Georgia Gov. Asks For Disaster Declaration Over Drought
Source: All Headline News

Gainesville, GA (AHN) - Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue is asking for a federal disaster declaration because of the state's drought. He's declared a state of emergency in 85 counties in the northern part of the state.

Perdue is asking President Bush to exempt Georgia from complying with federal guidelines that dictate the amount of water sent downstream to mussel beds which are federally protected. Sources say the city of Atlanta has just a 90-day supply of water.

2. You're right - Saxby Chambliss = evil incarnate
The citizens of Georgia showed they had a death wish, and God heard their pleas. It's a shame that good Democrats have to suffer along with the demonic Repukes, but so it goes. I say this as a former Georgian. When I left the state, the governor, lieutenant governor, and both senators were Democrats. Such a shame. Georgia used to be the most progressive state in the south. Now it's east Mississippi, heading for the bottom of the barrel.

5. Born in Atlanta...Abt. the time of . FDR
A time when most of the people were living off the earth, until FDR showed up on the scene, then the old south grew into the New South, back in my day when I was about 10 years old, I remember the citizens of Georgia being so gratefully to FDR, it was almost worship. I remember one school, the only votes going to the guy that ran against FDR.in his last election,( can't remember his name just now) only got the votes of one family of wealthy republican farmers. The state was a solid south for many many years, will Bush turn Georgia a solid BLUE again,, hope so?

4. I Was Talking to an Atlantan Last Night
She told me they haven't had to go onto any kind of rationing plan as of yet (outside of lawn watering).

Atlanta and many of the other Southern states have been engaged in foolishness. While the reservoirs drop, they're not taking any pages from California's well-publicized water-rationing in times of drought.

In Nashville we are on the edge of exceptional drought, and only two outlying communities have any water restrictions at all.
