Al Gore to Expose Bush on Environment, Global-Warming
http://www.algoredemocrats.com/news/gnn/EpZFVAyuZFFywVhxjN.shtml

New York Speech Sponsored by MoveOn.org & Environment2004
Thursday, Jan. 15 at Noon

NEW YORK, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Former Vice President Al Gore will deliver a major address attacking the Bush Administration's policies on global warming and the environment at the historic Beacon Theatre in New York City on Thursday, January 15. The speech is being co-sponsored by MoveOn.org and Environment2004.

Mr. Gore will issue an indictment of the Bush administration's inaction on global warming, linking the issue to U.S. national security. He will show that global warming is happening right now, and yet the President is choosing to help his coal- and oil-company supporters rather than advance modern technologies that can affordably solve this critical problem. The speech will also explore the administration's deliberate attempts to mislead the public as it attacks basic environmental laws and protection.

This is a free event, but attendance is open only to members of MoveOn.org and Environment2004 who have RSVP'd, and to credentialed journalists.

1. Yes, but doesn't Bush have this exciting new voluntary program?
Nearly fifty companies have signed up for it, and fourteen - FOURTEEN - of them have agreed to do something to limit GHG emissions - voluntarily, of course, and they weren't sure quite how much they'd cut, and they're not bound by any agreement, but they said they'd help.

Oh, and did I mention that this program has three staff members and a budget of (insert Dr. Evil voice) one . . . MILLION . . . dollars?

3. This Keystone Kops cronyism would be funny, but they get away with it!
I'll never forgive the media for their betrayal of ordinary people. Absolutely sickening, it is.

5. So you
should vote for best qualified candidate on the environment. John Kerry. Right Mr. Gore?

16. So, he shouldn't talk about this because he isn't supporting Kerry?
There is more than one issue to consider when endorsing a candidate. Gore is doing a good thing and people will listen.

6. Call Cspan and beg them to tape it and play it
765-464-3080
I have called them and asked them to cover events. Their receptionists have always been polite. Just call and ask them to cover Al Gore on 1/15.

Since the speech is in NYC, they may be hesitant to send a film crew, but ask anyway.

7. I just called

and was told to email events@cspan.org where they deal with future programming.

This sounds like a great event. It's too bad that environmental issues seem to have largely dropped off the radar. Bush's retrograde policies are especially vulnerable on this front. Concern for the environment cuts across a broad demographic.

8. Energy bill redux, Clear skies lawsuit, Tongass forest are still topical
There are a number of issues that are still being enacted, legislated, or decided on in the courts. This is our moment to fire a huge number of letters to the editors and to our elected reps to get the issues some attention.

I am planning some forums and will demonstrate if the administration officials come into town.

We can make this an issue!!

9. I completely agree
it could be a pivotal issue for what promises to be a very close election.

10. I might add
If we had a healthy media system (which can be viewed as our ecological sensors), more poeple would be aware and duly alarmed. I hope to see media reform issues elevated as well.

Let us not miss this opportunity for lack of trying. Further, we can MAKE stories.

11. I know it is an important issue
Very important, but it is an issue which takes a back burner to this terrible situation in Iraq which is entirely the fault of an inept and stupid leader who was not elected, and who relies totally upon lies and propaganda in order to even appear like a leader who is alert and aware-the sad part is that no one is willing to take him on, except Kuchinich. Love that guy. I know it is one of Gore's favorite subjects, and I know it is important, but to me,Gore's concentrating on this, is exasperating.

Children are being killed in Iraq. Children are being orphaned in Iraq -- by our guns and our policies--is there no one willing to express any sort of outrage at this terrible barbarism?

17. Would be nice
if Gore had talked like this in 2000. I mean it's great he's finally got some balls, but if he had had them 4 years ago, we wouldn't be in this mess.

19. Everytime Gore calls him on something, Bush has to move, and fast
He ramped up the terror-Iraq connection immediately after Gore's speech against the war; he fired his economic team in accordance with Gore's advise. Gore should have a speech every week, pummeling the Chimp and his band of dangerous incompetents.

20. Ok. So what? Real question is:
What will he be WEARING?

Earth tones? Possibly. Possibly.

We can only pray that the easily distracted media will focus their attention for once on these crucial questions of haberdashery.

21. Didn't Gore once say he "invented" the Environment?
It must be true, because I heard it from the news media.

22. I'm glad Gore is nailing Bush on the Environment, but wasn't
Gore a big disappointment when he was VP...especially on the issue of Global Warming? I seem to recall some big Global Warming pow-wow in South America during his VP days when the world looked to the U.S. for leadership on this issue, and the U.S. failed to make any significant reductions of pollutants in our industries. Can't recall the details but do remember the disappointment....

Perhaps his hands were tied somewhat, but still....

24. Glad to hear it,
however I'm like to hear a lot more about the environment from our current Democratic candidates. The issues rarely get the attention they deserve. Of course, I'm always looking forward to hearing what my President has to say about anything.

25. Al Gore won't have a hard time attacking pres. POS on the environment.
Edited on Sun Jan-11-04 05:08 AM by sfg25
The AHOLE in Chief doesn't even know what Global Warming is, or care.

Actually one could attack pres. POS on just about every single issue since STEALING the WH and not have a hard time.
