PetroChina is world's top company

Source: BBC News

Chinese oil firm PetroChina has trumped US rival Exxon Mobil to become the world's biggest firm by market value on its first day of trading in Shanghai.

PetroChina saw its shares nearly triple in early trade from 16.7 yuan to end at 43.96 yuan, giving PetroChina a market value of about $1 trillion (£480.6bn).

This is almost the twice the $488bn value of oil producer Exxon Mobil.

1. just one more reason why global warming is NOT going to be stopped...

china and india want the same kind of prosperity for their people that we've enjoyed since the days of the industrial revolution. and they're going to be burning up a lot of carbon-heavy fossil fuels to see that it happens.

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...

3. Nixon started HMO's and he started China's developement.....

The HMOs ruined our health care and now China is going to eat our lunch. They are already poisening us with their products, and I wonder if it is not intentional.
Nixon was a bad bad man in many ways. The EPA was one of the few decent things that SOB did.

4. And yet Norman Lear's shows of the time had his characters praising Nixon...

Check out some of the old episode of "All in the Family" some time... I also recall "Good Times" having JJ promote a Chinese-made electric blanket to his brother Michael.

5. All In The Family

Norman Lear's original premise of "All In The Family" was that Archie Bunker was so right-wing that he would look like a lunatic to the viewers. It didn't work out that way. The audience loved Archie and his politics, and his liberal son-in-law "Meathead" (Rob Reiner) usually ended up being the one with the foolish ideas.

"All In The Family" was the first comedy series with a storyline that included some of the politics of the day, and was a radical move by Mr. Lear.
