Iowa GOP cancels Dec. 4 debate
Source: Des Moines Register

The Iowa Republican Party has canceled a presidential debate that was scheduled to be televised on the FOX News Channel on Dec. 4.

Craig Robinson, the party's political director, said the debate was canceled because of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's unwillingness to participate.

"We are very disappointed that Iowa Republicans will not have the same opportunity as Republicans in New Hampshire, Florida and South Carolina had earlier this year with their FOX News debates," Robinson said in an e-mail announcing the cancellation.

It would appear that Romeny did not feel a desire to debate and backed out.

I'm supposed to believe that it's not really a debate WITHOUT one person?

They cancelled because the more the GOP debates, the worse they look.

No more DU donations for this quarter--gotta buy a new bullshit meter.

5. This is how I pictured it
Edited on Fri Nov-16-07 01:34 PM by Lone_Star_Dem
Romney says he's decided not to attend the debate. The rest of the candidates say he can't do that. To which he replies, "sure I can." Then then all have hissy fits and refuse to participate in the debate if no one is going to force Romney. Finally, when all the dust has settled, the GOP decides considering collective intelligence and maturity of their candidates this year, they'd really rather let this debate fall to the wayside.

8. They managed to have a CNN Dem debate without Mike Gravel.

They don't have to cancel a debate just because they are short one candidate, whether because the candidate refuses to attend or is unfairly excluded.

4. I wonder if the revelations about Ailes and Fox News championing Rudy is a component of this.
How the other GOP candidates can be friendly with Fox after they've been doublecrossed is a fascinating thing to watch now.

6. My guess is that the overwhelming boredom did it
Hearing the Democrats bash each other over positions that are truly
different from each other is one thing. Trying not to fall asleep while
a bunch of tired old white guys try to out-right-wing each other gets
difficult when all they do is attack Hill and Bill for the 7,438th time,
and blame all our ills on libbbruls.

Fox could bring in more advertising revenue with Simsons reruns. I think
their money people realize it.

14. Actually, I have it on the best inside information . . .
That a Negro might show up, the prospect of which made all the candidates very uncomfortable. Romney agreed to be the Bad Guy Who Wouldn't Participate, but the whole gaggle of them just had a collective case of the willies.

At least, that's was some people are saying.

12. What do they have to debate
They have no issues and unless they just want a platform to impugn one another it is pointless. What are they going to say, everything is going great? Even they know the GOP has shown the world how they govern and the world ain't buying it for a moment..They are the most incompetent Party to ever be in power in America...

15. The public has nothing to do with the GOP campaign. They are all just playing a role for their
focus groups. Cheney will select the candidate to play the lead and place Lynne Cheney on the ticket as VP to keep the backchannel open. I expect a Mitt/L Cheney ticket is in the offing.

Even the GOP Iowa caucus is totally different than the DEM caucus. The GOP has no public input, they just sign in fill out a straw ballot and leave.

16. Reported on Talk Left yesterday that Romney is pissed about Faux's support of Ghouliani. Can't
remember which program but the whole flap over Faux allowing Ghouliani to use clips but telling Romney to take them down, the Judith Regan thing, etc., has Romney campaign really pissed. Good, let them eat their own.

19. the big quarter-billionaire is throwing a temper tantrum
and he will NOT be ignored! waaaaah...

dontcha love it when rich dirtbag repubs start realizing they're going to get shat upon like the rest of us if they get in the way of the men who run the GOP and want Rudy as their candidate against Hillary, so it's a win win for the corporate whores?

I do! McCain musta had brainwashing(done against his will) to forget the crap they did to him in '00 so he'd keep being subservient to the GOP MACHINE!
