Plea deal negotiations ongoing, say lawyers
for Lea Fastow

HOUSTON - The legal team representing the wife of former Enron
Corp. finance chief Andrew Fastow continued Saturday to
negotiate a plea deal that would satisfy a federal judge and clear
a path for possible cases against the failed energy giant's top
executives.
"Yes, we are working," said Mike DeGeurin, Lea Fastow's lead
attorney. "No, negotiations have not collapsed. We have
reasonable lawyers on all sides and both sides."
DeGeurin declined to elaborate on the specifics of the deal. Leslie
Caldwell, head of the Justice Department's Enron Task Force, and
Justice Department spokesman Bryan Sierra didn't return calls for
comment Saturday.
Enron crumbled in December 2001 amid revelations of hidden debt,
inflated profits and accounting tricks. Thousands of workers lost
their jobs and stock that once traded at $90 became worthless.
