4. Oh damn...now what is the propaganda network going to use to bash Muslims?
I'm sure they'll be disappointed. I'm waiting to hear how "bush and kindasleezy applied their diplomatic pressure"....cough, cough.

5. I can't believe you wrote that. That poor woman was in very serious jeopardy -

and I, for one, am very happy that she will get out out of that hell hole alive, if she does.

It is not all Muslims who were being bashed - just the rsdicals who were asking for her life. They are on the same par with the evangelicals in this country who want to bash gays,

25. I suggest those
demonstrators were let out of the loony bin for a few hours as a cheap rent-a-crowd.

Then comes the President who magnanimously "pardons" her.

7. Because that was the kindest most tolerant behavior ever.
And we should never say a rude word about it.

9. this is not representative of the Mob outside
it means that Sudan's government felt political pressure from the outside.

The propaganda network can use the thousands of cases, sans this one and the one being "reviewed" in Saudi Arabia as evidence.

Just because you caught 2 cockroaches in the kitchen, doesn't mean the other 100 do not live there in the shadows. When the West doesn't pick one of these cases up as a cause celebre, they do what they normally do...which is barbaric sentences based on Sha-ria law.

Of course, it's always a minority. And somehow, these minorities are always the lawmakers.

19. Hey, Sunshine! She was convicted of insulting a wholly made up religion
she was pardoned. That means that according to their backwards and stupid system, she was still guilty of some sort of crime.

All religious laws are asinine crap.

26. Little did you know that network is right here
Lol, there are people in this thread disappointed this didn't end up worse so they could slam Islam, and of course by connexion all religion. They are the exact same as the rw'ers you're talking about, just with slightly different motives.

12. you allow a Muslim kid the ability to name their favorite teddy bear
the most honored name in Islam.

Seems that pisses off Muslims...who would have thought.

13. There was never an intent to insult Islam
if you read the report at the link, you'll see that Islamic scholars say that that the insult has to be deliberate; since Mohammed is a common name, and the teacher is from another culture, it was obvious it was not. This was an example of Sudan making a political statement against the West in the guise of religion. Kudos to the Western Muslims, especially those in the House of Lords, that were able to engineer her release.

Insulting a religion shouldn't be a crime anywhere on planet earth.

24. It was another example of people using religion
as an excuse for bad behavior, that's all.

True religion cannot be "insulted", any more than you can "insult" the sun or the moon.

17. Sudan is still a horrible shithole with a truly deviant legal system
found guilty of "insulting" a religion and sentenced to jail? Please. That's fucking stupid. Religions don't get anywhere near what they give.

21. Ms Gibbons is free!
I'm so happy for her.
I really don't understand the fuss. Naming a favorite toy after their prophet surely means that the kids love his name. Maybe it's the law in Sudan not to use his name at all.

23. The Kid's Name was Muhammad
He (I think he'll all of 7) named his teddy after himself. The other kids in the class voted and agreed that Muhammad is a great name for a teddy bear. I have to wonder how all those kids named Muhammad feel about all this. It's the most popular name for Muslim boys. With luck, they are so appalled that they all vow that such a thing won't happen when they're grown up. So changes the world.
