Dems plan to focus on the economy this week: Signal refocus of political debate from Iraq to economy

House Democrats will host an economic forum on Friday, signaling their intent to refocus the political debate on President Bush’s handling of the economy and away from the situation in Iraq. House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.) floated the proposal last week, in a story first reported by The Hill.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D-Mass.) and Emanuel announced the details of the forum on Sunday. “Restoring the American dream for millions of our nation’s working families
has been a central priority for House Democrats,” Pelosi said in a statement.

Participants in the forum include, Jane D’Arista, the Financial Markets Center; Laurence D. Fink, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BlackRock; William Hambrecht, a San Francisco investor; Warren Hellman of Hellman & Friedman, a private equity firm; and Eugene A. Ludwig, the founder and CEO of Promontory Group, a financial services company.

Participants better known in Washington will include Lawrence Mishel, the president of the Economic Policy
Institute (EPI); Bill Spriggs, an economist at Howard University; former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers; John Sweeney, president of the AFL-CIO; Felix G. Rohatyn, a former ambassador to France, longtime Democratic Party wiseman and Wall Street maven; and Laura Tyson, former director of the National Economic Council during the Clinton Administration.

1. Ms. Pelosi
"Restoring the American dream" would be nice. It's a shame you can't restore the dreams of all those Americans that have died in this illegal war that belonged to Bush. Now that war belongs to you and the congress as well as Bush. You have thumbed your noses at the American people after you were given control of congress to end this war and hold those who started it accountable for their actions. Instead, you have shirked your duty to the people and to the Constitution by doing absolutely nothing to fulfill your mandate.

"Restoring the American dream". What an empty quotation from you and your counterparts in the Senate. SHame on you!

Please also keep in mind that the voters are going to install term limits on you jack-asses by voting you out of office. We will keep voting you out until someone finally has the guts to put the Constitution first and forget about their "careers". If you do what you are supposed to do, then you would not have to worry about your career.

"Restoring the American dream". How about ending our American nightmare first? There is a mountain of evidence to impeach both Cheney and Bush. You will not do it because you promised the WH that you would not pursue impeachment even after Bush gets out of office (John Turly). You are too busy trying to protect each other than protect the Constitution. You all make me sick!

6. That would take courage and independence from the circle of Washington and corporate elites
In other words, forget it.

5. This is where HRC will make gains when all she needs to say
is "it's the economy, stupid". Yes, it will be hers and when she does give a speech hopefully before the christmas break she will have former treasury sect. robert rubin there with her. He did say about 2 weeks ago but was not covered by the msm that he is supporting HRC for the nomination. Oh this will be good for HRC.
