Rice Wins Support for Iran Sanctions
Source: ASSOCIATED PRESS

BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) -- Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice won support Thursday on Iran from two key European allies, France and Germany, whose leaders urged continued pressure on Tehran because of its nuclear program, saying the country remains a danger.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Nicolas Sarkozy urged a two-pronged approach of pressure and negotiations with Iran.

"I think we are in a process and that Iran continues to pose a danger," Merkel said in Paris at a joint news conference with Sarkozy in response to a new U.S. intelligence estimate indicating Iran stopped nuclear weapons development in 2003.

Merkel did not specifically express support for a new U.N. sanctions resolution against Iran but said: "We and our partners would like to continue with the U.N. process."

Sarkozy has continued to support the U.S.-led push for sanctions. "The threat exists," he said.

2. Rice threatened Merkel.
Condi said that if Merkel didn't buy into the sanctions, Rice would tell Bush that Merkel really liked her neck massage and was looking forward to "a more interesting rub down." Merkel screamed in horror and immediately agreed.

Who needs waterboarding?

3. Ahh Yes
The West still can't get over the fact that in the end they lost the Crusades! It's ironic that three of the countries calling Iran a threat, are the same three, France, Germany, and England, calling for a different kind of Crusade, this time without the false piety!!!!!

4. Read that again. Headline should be, "Germany Backs Away From Bush Sanctions Plan"
Edited on Thu Dec-06-07 02:39 PM by leveymg
Key sentence: Merkel did not specifically express support for a new U.N. sanctions resolution against Iran but said: "We and our partners would like to continue with the U.N. process."

Chalk up another false headline from AP, Associated Propaganda.

6. Sanctions against Iran for not building a bomb.
So Iran should immediately start building a bomb so that the sanctions can be lifted. OK. The entire planet's leadership is certifiably insane.

It's a given that Brown and Sarkozy are neocon, chickenhawk warmongers, but Merkel? I just read the other posts and she's not agreeing with any such thing.

The psychology of this move is transparent: negative reinforcement for positive action. Iran can do nothing right and they're not going to get a break. What would happen to a child raised in this manner? Serial killer? Rapist?

The agenda of the American Empire is out there for all to see and we're being greatly harmed by allowing the cabal to remain in power.

You can stop it Nancy. If you're not smart enough to realize the implications, ask Dennis Kucinich and Joe Biden to 'splain it to you.

8. Mis-titled news report. Germany wants to follow the UN process.

I suspect this is part of the bush propaganda machine that he's paying millions to release news paper releases from, with our tax dollars. It's to make us believe that we have Germany and Frances support. France does have an issue with muslims but still, I don't think they're going to jump in line. Look how much they supported iraq.

This article is twisting the truth into bush propaganda. Nothing more.

11. wow...they don't have a nuclear program...and yet
they're being sanctioned for having a nuclear program.

I hate to side with the Iranian regime, but I'm taking their side on this. Methinks the nuclear "meme" was just an excuse to badger the Iranian regime because of its theocratic nature. As much as I hate it myself, I believe in leaving nations alone.

14. correct
and even if they did have a weapons program, I don't believe that is a reason to sanction or go to war. Do we go to war with Pakistan, India, Israel, or others with weapons programs?

16. and for complying with the NPT, a treaty that the US is not complying with.
This is just more arrogant bullshit being tossed at Iran in the hopes that Iran will react and provide a cause for war.

As we saw with Iraq, a strategy of not reacting, of continued compliance within legimate bounds, will not work. Our leaders will, having grown tired of poking the bear, start shooting anyway.
