US Army loses another 12,000 guns and trucks
Source: Herald (UK)

The US military in Iraq has lost track of another 12,000 weapons, including more than 800 machine-guns, and everything from 2100 new electricity generators to half a dozen garbage trucks.

The latest gap in record-keeping follows a report by the US government's accountability office in the summer which revealed that 190,000 Kalashnikov assault rifles and automatic pistols earmarked for Iraqi government forces had gone astray in 2004 and 2005 and could be in insurgent hands.

The US Defence Department said an audit between March and May this year could trace only £41m-worth of armoured vehicles and other equipment worth more than £500m which was supposed to be part of Iraq's police and army training and outfitting package.

Items which had disappeared without leaving a paper trail included 2300 rocket-propelled grenade launchers, 7000 pistols and 18 heavy recovery vehicles worth £5m.

5. Ya think Iraq could be a future trouble spot?
All that ordnance floating around.... artillery rounds from Saddam's day still unsecured... militias of every flavor... everybody's pissed!

Consider this, too... Saddam kept a lid on thievery of weapons and military equipment. The US has taught the locals that all this good shit is up for grabs... get yours now!

17. i'd be more worried about the missing vehicles
one of those loaded with artillery shells and explosives still bearing coalition or iraqi government identification might not have as hard of a time getting close to important facilities.

13. Yup! Priming the pump for the civil war they want to break out
after Bush leaves office. That way they can blame it all on the Democrats. Meanwhile the Bush crime family and house of Saud will support the Sunni's in an all out war on the Shia and Iran.

15. 1st thing the new Dem President needs to do is fire every contractor in Iraq for gross incompetence.
And frankly, I think we should seize every bloody penny they've made for the treasury, throw most of their staff into prison, and quite possibly execute a few CEOs/boards of directors as examples.

This is incompetence beyond the fucking pale, because they KNOW they can just keep sucking on the government teat no matter how badly they screw up, since all the fucking mil-industrial top dogs are asshole buddies with BushCo.
