Tony Blair to take new job as advisor for JP Morgan
Source: Daily Telegraph

Tony Blair is preparing to take a lucrative job with an international investment bank, he has disclosed.

The former prime minister - who is said to be earning as much as £1 million a month from speaking fees - will supplement his income as an adviser to JP Morgan, one of the biggest names on Wall Street.

The job could pay Mr Blair about £500,000 a year, according to Wall Street recruitment consultants.

Since he left office last June, several international banks are said to have wooed Mr Blair, hoping to make use of his extensive contacts with governments around the world. He will act part-time for JP Morgan and is likely to take similar advisory roles elsewhere

1. It's how the game is played.

Bush will end up with similar jobs. Which is good, because there's no way anybody will pay him to speak.

7. To Play The King?
I am reminded of a scene in To Play the King, the sequel to House Of Cards (a political British TV series that was more sinister than the comedy classics Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister).

The wife of the Prime Minister is asking a friend how one stumbles into post-administrative wealth, as past Ministers seem to do it inexplicably...

That was some of the BEST TV ever, along with Helen Mirren as Jane Tennyson and the spy thriller Spooks. I love the BBC.

Best line by FU "We are by God a nation of fierce bad rabbits."

JP Morgan Chase & Co $205,900

The organizations themselves did not donate, rather the money came from the organization's PAC, its individual members or employees or owners, and those individuals' immediate families. Organization totals include subsidiaries and affiliates.

Because of contribution limits, organizations that bundle together many individual contributions are often among the top donors to presidential candidates. These contributions can come from the organization's members or employees (and their families).

11. Blair takes job with JPMorgan, will continue Mideast role
Source: AP

LONDON (AP) - Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair took a job as an adviser to JPMorgan Chase & Co. on Thursday _ a part-time post that his spokesman says will not affect his role as a Mideast peace envoy.

Blair will give JPMorgan's senior management team «strategic advice and provide insights on global issues,» said Ruti Winterstein, a Blair spokeswoman in Israel. The appointment will not infringe on his duties with the so-called Quartet _ the United States, European Union, United Nations and Russia, she said.

. . .

The Financial Times quoted Blair as saying in an interview that he expected to agree to «a small handful» of similar appointments with other companies in different sectors. «I have always been interested in commerce and the impact of globalization,» he was quoted as saying. «Nowadays, the intersection between politics and the economy in different parts of the world, including emerging markets, is very strong.

. . .

Blair, who stepped down as Britain's prime minister last year, was in Israel on Thursday, where U.S. President George W. Bush was on a three-day visit to show support for renewed Israeli-Palestinian peace talks following seven years of violence. Blair is scheduled to meet Bush on Friday.

Since leaving office, Blair also has joined the international conference circuit, receiving US$500,000 (¤340,000) for one speech in China.
