I will have to do some deep thinking about this.
Wonder how many refi'd their houses to put in more insulation or a more efficient heater or air conditioner? Was it ALL paying off credit cards? The reason I ask is that at one point here, all the hardware stores and even WalMart were out of insulation and weatherstripping. What do YOU think?

Houses have been well insulated since the 70s.
Square footage has gone up consistently since then. I can find a chart or make one.
Credit card debt went UP during the refi boom.

but shouldn't it be in the editorial/opinion forum - a) because it is commentary and b) because it will stay up longer giving more people a chance to read it.

It might be a good idea to move it to the "Economics Forum" where those who can understand the implications will give it a longer view.

This is the cat "out of the bag." One has to read many articles to get to the kernal of hard bitter truth in this article and the others linked on this site.

As long as they say inflation is low
1) They can sell more energy pigs 2) They don't have to pay old folks a raise in Social Security 3) They can sell bonds to stupid investors to finance expensive wars (which helps keep the price of energy high)
BIG INCENTIVE?
