Federal judge dismisses lawsuit against Office of Hawaiian Affairs
http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2004/Jan/15/ln/ln03a.html

A federal judge yesterday dismissed a case challenging the constitutionality of government programs for Native Hawaiians, ruling that the court should not interfere with the ongoing congressional debate over Hawaiians' political status.

U.S. District Judge Susan Oki Mollway found that Congress had in recent years recognized a "special trust relationship" with Hawaiians of varying blood quantum levels, drawing them closer to becoming a political class akin to Native Americans for whom separate benefits are allowed.

1. Few people realize that...
...American business men "stole" Hawaii from the ruling royal family. THe U.S. Gov't then stepped in to "keep the peace" but in reality they ligitimized the coup. There is still a princess fo the royal family living on the islands. Contrary to "common knowledge" the US does indeed have a royal family.

3. Don't rememebr her name unfortunately.
She's in her late 50's I think. She is decended from that last king of Hawaii. His daughter to be exact. That should make her a decentant of Ku-Mea-Mea (sp?).

5. Abigale Kawananakoa.
Not sure of the spelling.

She, along with the rest of the "K" family, have dismissed such talk and claims as nonsense (of restoring them to their rightful place as head of a restored monarchy).

Only 2nd or 3rd distant cousins, with not much Hawaiian "by blood", have been making the "claim". Kinda like bush being remotely linked to the queen of england and making a claim to that throne. Not as distant, but you get the idea.

I haven't read it completely yet, but the article has a lot of the names that will help you start your search. Good luck. Needless to say this isn't something that is easy to follow up on, not something the U.S. Gov't likes talking about, and won't make certain people very happy with you when you bring it up.

<on edit>

As with most of these types of subjcets, you are going to find some conflicting claims and information.

6. Then again, I could be wrong. Or not.
To say the least, it is a very confusing situation.

I would, however, support the restoration in a heartbeat, if an actual agreement amongst the competing claims could be found.

This current country of Amerikkka is not the country I was born into.

Anybody But Bush*.

Anyone but repukes.
