Germany Mulls Sending Hospital Plane to Iraq (DW)

"The military's MedEvac plane is a flying hospital.
After months of refusing to send troops to help stabilize Iraq, Germany now appears prepared to allow its military take part in a humanitarian mission in the country -- but only under a U.N. mandate."

1. Just some added info to put it into perspective:
On monday 19th, the "Rebuild Iraq" fair starts in Kuwait, lasting 5-days. There contracts are expected to be made for about 50 billion dollar. More than 1350 companies from about 48 countries meet there. 60 of the companies are german. The german press agency AFP reported on wednesday, the german companies want "to use the exhibition under now possibly improved conditions as a springboard".
Siemens already got subconstracted by Hallyburton, IIRC. There's a thread about this in LBN, too.

Dirk

2. Not a fan of Gerhard, Dirk?
By the way, what part of Deutschland do you live in? North? South? East? West? Brandenburg? Bayern? Hamburg?

5. Hamburg, no fan of Gerhard...
this little neoliberal errand boy for VW. If not for the social democratic party, he would be a mediocre lawyer, defending little mafiosis, who deal with used cars. Like Fischer, the cab driver without school-exam, who became our minister for foreign affairs.

Nothing against cab-drivers or people without school-exams, but after I took over the government, both of them will sell eco-burgers at McDirk's for the than highered minimal wage.
Now send some samariters to the bush-aggressors and steal some millions from the Iraqi people for the wealth of Siemens and company.
We're so pacifistic, lately,
Hello Fenris!

8. Hallo Dirk!
I can't say I blame you for not liking Schroeder. He seems...um...Blair-esque. Neoliberals are such worthless leaders.

One of my best friends from high school was from Hamburg. He came there on an exchange program. Crazy, but a generally nice guy. He was actually so nice, I was kind of alarmed by it, since no one in Texas is nice.

That was another thing I couldn't figure out. Of all the places he could have gone, he picked East Texas.

He helped me a lot with my German. I took 5 German coures in high school, 2 of which were college-level. He was good to have there. He helped me through my struggles with Duerrenmatt. Especially with Die Physiker and Der Besuch der alten Dame. That was the weird thing. All of my reading was Duerrenmatt. That was okay with me though. I liked his writing. My friend didn't, but hey, I'm not German, so I have limited exposure to German literature.

Well, here's one to Ben Stoller of Hamburg.
