Kansas preacher tries Twin Falls for anti-gay monument
Kansas preacher tries Twin Falls for anti-gay monument

January 16, 2004 1:42 AM

The Associated Press

Twin Falls-AP -- The Reverend Fred Phelps of Kansas is now petitioning to erect an anti-gay monument in Twin Falls.

City officials are calling for written guidelines on memorials in city parks.

The Times-News ran an article last month about a program allowing people to memorialize loved ones in city parks by buying trees, park benches or picnic tables. The day after the article ran, Phelps contacted the board.

1. Thank God for Sept. 11
What kind of sick fuck would carry a sign like this?

Even the most homophobic person should be outraged at the 9/11 sign, but they are not!

of their hate and intolerance. I'm sure God is outraged with their behavior.

Phelps should be forced to face the widow(er)s of firemen, police officers and ordinary folks who died that day; or the folks who died from sniper fire. I'd like to hear what they they think about this sick picture and the fact that he allows his followers to degrade the memories of innocent people who were killed that day...

10. the best way to deal with Phelps is
organizing fundraisers that people pledge money for every minute he protests a particular event. He is therefore, by being there, raising money for the very thing he despises. I've seen this work, and if done correctly, (so he knows and sees), works fairly well.

The man is obviously troubled, along with his brainwashed family, but as a an attorney he is very much familiar with his rights so that angle doesn't work very well. All I can say is that he is creating some terrible Karma.

34. love that idea
and he needs frequent reminders that where he goes fund raising follows.

Another suggestion is to get Improv and second city type talent out there doing satire and comedy about this. Street theater will attract while his negativity repells. The more people like FP are laughed at and exposed as ridiculous the better thinking people will feel. I don't believe in dispensing Karmic justice. I believe in creating my own when I can. He's in his own hell right now.

FP gave a gay relative of mine the finger at a pride parade. I would be all too happy to donate to any fund raiser that counters this fool.

in Topeka, his home city. He protests every one of our events. I play in the symphony and he is always there so we raised some money by doing that, not much but some. He actually donated, why I do not know.

16. No joke...the signs are real
The "traveling freak show" was in town last week to further harass the kid that got punished in school for stating that his mom was gay. I can happily report that even though the Phelps freaks were allowed to protest in front of the kid's school and at the school board office, their group was very small (10-12 people). A larger group (50+) of local citizens supporting the kid and his moms set up next to them and let them know that their presence in our community was neither needed, nor wanted. The freaks stayed for a few hours and left.

Edited on Fri Jan-16-04 03:06 PM by Danieljay
but his site is http://www.godhatesfags.com. I lived in Kansas before moving to the wonderful city of Portland Oregon and know first hand about this man and his misguided ways. Most of his followers are his brainwashed children and other family members. Its really a cult if you want my honest opinion. There are a few members of his family that have moved on and changed there name so they aren't associated with him. Oh, and lets not forget that God hates America too.. http://www.godhatesamerica.com. I'm not comfortable posting these but it exposes what these people are and perhaps open our eyes to what we can be up against. I caution anyone going to these sites, they are graphic and often provoke the same feelings towards those who post such things as those who are the provokers. Rise above it... Moderators, feel free to remove this post if I have violated any rules. I post these only for confirmation, not as a promotion.

33. I've seen them up close and personal.
They are real, and really hateful and obscene. Saw them at a performance of "Stomp" outside the venue. Try explaining that sh*t to a 9 year old, excited to see a live stage performance.

To the poster suggesting donations to human rights organizations for every minute Phelps and his followers picket, I've done that. They were protesting some play being performed at a local high school. Money poured in, donated to an organization that supports HIV infected citizens. The Phelps group only lasted 23 minutes, if I recall correctly, but those who had pledged $$ ended up sending in much much more than 23 minutes worth.

29. He's A Cancer, A Virus. He Must Not Be Ignored.
Left alone and unanswerable he can only grow larger and stronger as he spreads his message of hate to others and then his "flock" does the same.

I'm reminded of Jim Jones and how HE too was able to brainwash others and whip them up into such a frothing frenzy that they would kill themselves. Why ELSE would SANE human beings behave that way and say the hateful things that they do??

39. Oh No We Don't
We need to George Kennan them, surround them, to hedge them in, to follow their hillbilly caravans with our own. We need to shout them down every time they step foot out of the city of Topeka, which if they were responsible, would have already done so.

If Mr. Soros wanted to do something to improve America, he might hire enough lawyers to keep the whole extended litigious family in court for the rest of their natural lives. After that, Grover Norquist, Roger Ailes, Rupert Murdoch and all the hate speech merchants.

Everything they do should be costly to them. Make them travel long distances to be surrounded and obscurred from the media and the public.

The way to fight entropy is to make stupidity painful.
