Letter to God Found in CO Gunman's Car
Source: AP

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- A plaintive letter asking Jesus "why didn't you ever answer my cries?" was found in the car of a gunman who killed four people at a church and missionary school before committing suicide, police said Wednesday.

The unsigned, undated letter is laced with expletives and asks, "Jesus, where are you? Do you even care these days?" KMGH-TV television in Denver reported.

The letter was found in the car of Matthew Murray, 24, on Dec. 9 after he killed two people at a missionary training school in suburban Denver and killed two others at New Life Church in Colorado Springs.

KMGH said it obtained a copy of the letter from someone close to the investigation but did not identify the person. Colorado Springs police later made the letter public.

The 1 1/2-page letter, handwritten on lined paper, sometimes insults God and asks, "Why couldn't you write your (expletive) book more clearly?"

17. And the religious are suffering delusions.
It's just a matter of degrees between delusion and insanity. I

It's apparently normal to believe in God, but if you talk to him, you're insane. :eyes:

As religion doesn't really exist anywhere but our own minds, it would seem a bit more apropos to say, "all minds are a curse on the world"... :shrug"

10. I would be forced to hold myself responsible for it...
Religion certainly hasn't "ruined" sex for me. However, I imagine that were sex "ruined" for me for whatever reason, I would be forced to hold myself responsible for it as the perceptions are mine and mine alone.

However, I still hold true that if religion is indeed a human construct, then both the advantages and disadvantages, that both the curses and the blessings, that practice of either abstinence and sustenance are by a matter of course, human constructs also-- to be blamed (or credited) on humans rather than a philosophy or religion....

A paraphrase of Marcus Aurelius' 'Meditations' who himself was a strict adherent to the philosophy of Stoicism (which instructed abstinence in particular contexts)

The problem is man. Not religion. If people want to say religion is believing in something that doesn't exist, then blaming religion on things is putting the blame on something they acknowlege doesn't exist. Man exists. Stopping religion will not stop man. All it will do is put the terrible outcomes of beliefs of supression under another collumn - racism, turf rights etc.

Because that wouldn't be any fun, in the long run now would it?

I remember at the time, several posters
were claiming that he was an atheist.

14. Dear God...hope you got the letter, and..
And I pray you can make it better down here.
I dont mean a big reduction in the price of beer,
But all the people that you made in your image,
See them starving on their feet,
cause they dont get enough to eat

From god,
I cant believe in you.

Dear god,
Sorry to disturb you,
But I feel that I should be heard loud and clear.
We all need a big reduction in amount of tears,
And all the people that you made in your image,
See them fighting in the street,
cause they cant make opinions meet,
About god,
I cant believe in you.

Did you make disease, and the diamond blue?
Did you make mankind after we made you?
And the devil too!

Dear god,
Dont know if you noticed,
But your name is on a lot of quotes in this book.
Us crazy humans wrote it, you should take a look,
And all the people that you made in your image,
Still believing that junk is true.
Well I know it aint and so do you,
Dear god,
I cant believe in,
I dont believe in,

I wont believe in heaven and hell.
No saints, no sinners,
No devil as well.
No pearly gates, no thorny crown.
Youre always letting us humans down.
The wars you bring, the babes you drown.
Those lost at sea and never found,
And its the same the whole world round.
The hurt I see helps to compound,
That the father, son and holy ghost,
Is just somebodys unholy hoax,
And if youre up there youll perceive,
That my hearts here upon my sleeve.
If theres one thing I dont believe in...

Its you,
Dear god.

15. How quickly the media forgets inconvenient facts.
"gunman who killed four people at a church and missionary school before committing suicide"

How quaint...

The article leaves out that:

"Police say though he was shot several times by a security officer, who has since been heralded for saving the lives of other potential shooting victims, it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound that killed Matthew Murray."
