McCain sounds Iran warning, backs J'lem as Israel's capital
Source: Haaretz

Senator John McCain, the Republican candidate for the U.S. presidency, expressed concern yesterday about Iran's support for terror and its development of nuclear weapons.

And before his arrival in Israel yesterday, McCain said he supports Israel's claim to Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish state. He told reporters in Jordan: "I support Jerusalem as the capital of Israel."

Later, speaking at a meeting with President Shimon Peres in Jerusalem, McCain said he was concerned by Iran's negative influence on the region - namely, the fact that it trains, finances and otherwise assists radical groups - and that his concern had merely been heightened by his current tour of the region.

Peres stressed that Iran is not Israel's problem only. "The combination of terror, nuclear capability and irresponsible leadership is a danger to the entire world," he said. "Even the region's Arab states fear Iran, and they need to say so out loud."

3. Spoken like a true Dominionist
Step 1 - Jerusalem as Israel's capital

Step 2 - begin expulsion of Palestinians & Muslims

Step 3 - tear down Dome of the Rock, begin construction of new Temple

Step 4 - all out war breaks out. This is good, because they need their "Armageddon"

Step 5 - Jeebus and his army of angels comes riding out of the sky to save the day

Step 6 - sinners (Muslims, gays, everyone else who isn't 'saved') are cast into Lake of Fire, "God's Chosen" people become rulers of the New Jerusalem

Yes, they actually believe this shit.

The entire world has to fear Iran. Not if they didn't want to.

The minimum possible breakdown of Iran is little people, radical religious leaders, current leaders.

The little people want peace just like the little people of the neighboring countries and the U.S.. The political leaders and their corporate partners are the ones leading it all and the religiou leaders fight everyone. There is no difference between political leaders, corporations, religious leaders in their zeolous pursuit of their own agendas. Religiosity of death.

Listen to the little people.

12. Here's some information
While Israel considers Jerusalem to be its capital, the international community for the most part doesn't!

On December 5, 1949, the State of Israel's first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion, proclaimed Jerusalem as Israel's capital and since then all branches of the Israeli government — legislative, judicial, and executive — have resided there. At the time of the proclamation, Jerusalem was divided between Israel and Jordan and thus only West Jerusalem was considered Israel's capital. Immediately after the 1967 Six-Day War, however, Israel annexed East Jerusalem, making it a de facto part of the Israeli capital. Israel enshrined the status of the "complete and united" Jerusalem — west and east — as its capital, in the 1980 Basic Law: Jerusalem, Capital of Israel.

The non-binding United Nations Security Council Resolution 478, passed on August 20, 1980, declared that this law was "null and void and must be rescinded forthwith." Member states were advised to withdraw their diplomatic representation from the city as a punitive measure. Most of the remaining countries with embassies in Jerusalem complied with the resolution by relocating them to Tel Aviv, where many embassies already resided prior to Resolution 478. Currently there are no embassies located within the city limits of Jerusalem, although there are embassies in Mevaseret Zion, on the outskirts of Jerusalem, and four consulates in the city itself. In 1995, the United States Congress had planned to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem with the passage of the Jerusalem Embassy Act. However, U.S. presidents, including President Bush and President Clinton, have argued that Congressional resolutions regarding the status of Jerusalem are merely advisory. The Constitution reserves foreign relations as an executive power, and as such, the US embassy is still in Tel Aviv.

13. Can states tell another sovereign state where its capital is or must be?
Edited on Wed Mar-19-08 01:52 PM by muddleofpudd
Can the UN pass a non-binding resolution telling us that our capital is New York or Lawrence, Kansas?

If every country moved its embassy to Philadelphia, does that make our declaration of the District of Columbia as our capital "controversial?"
