BAGHDAD: The U.S. military says an American soldier has been killed by small-arms fire in Baghdad.

The military says the Multi-National Division — Baghdad soldier was taken to a hospital after being shot in a northwestern area of the capital but succumbed to the wounds.

Wednesday's shooting brings the overall American death toll to at least 4,002 since the Iraq war started in March 2003. That's according to an Associated Press count.

Two US soldiers killed in Baghdad

Two US soldiers were killed in Baghdad on during combat operations in the iraqi capital on Wednesday, the military announced.

One soldier died of gunshot wounds sustained when he came under small-arms fire while on combat patrol in Baghdad, it said, while the second was killed later in the eastern part of the capital.

US troops fought with Shiite fighters in eastern Baghdad's Sadr City on Wednesday but the military did not say whether the soldier was killed in these clashes.
