Lou Dobbs CNN - West Point to replace their guards with
private guards - the National Guard usually guards West Point, but because of the shortage of troops, they are being replaced with guards from a private firm.

Holy Cow! I'm sure Wes will have a word or two about this!

17. THEY ARE THE CIA read this shit
Alutiiq has the in house expertise to properly analyze and detect vulnerabilities, recommend sound approaches to eliminate them, and real world savvy to know which approaches really work. Leading these is US Army General (Retired) Joe Stringham. General Stringham rose through the ranks in US Army Special Forces and has been assigned to foreign governments as a security representative for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Post retirement he has developed security systems and teams around the world to support governments and industry. Our team also consists of former military and CIA security specialists. General Stringham and his team have the real world experience to know how to help security personnel and avoid the pitfalls of overly complex, failure/fault prone equipment, and ensure that systems are integrated to provide a seamless operating environment

In the performance of our contract at Kwajalein Atoll, Alutiiq provides full spectrum police and security services to include policing of neighborhoods and industrial areas, waterside security at multiple islands, airport security, and traffic law enforcement

4. When I first signed up...
(1984) Navy base gaurds were Marines.
Now, they are half DoD cops, half sailors on shore duty.
I don't feel safer.
Privatizing them further would make me downright scared.

8. Nothing wrong with Dod cops
Edited on Thu Jan-22-04 07:32 AM by demsrule4life
Have to be a graduate of the Federal Law Enforcement Academy in Ga. And they sure in the hell are paid good. :) I was a DoD cop after I retired from the Air Force security police at Redstone Arsenal and I really enjoyed it. I just hope the point goes to DoD cops and not some company like wackyouinthebutt.

have been linked to contracting guard duties to civilians... the same duties performed by Nat'l Guard units, paid a fraction as much for longer hours.

18. Actually by Army Regs
Army MP's are not supposed to be doing physical security except for priorty A, B and C resources. Why in Germany Ponds security has been guarding Army bases for the past several years and more and more DoD cops have been doing the security and law enforcement on bases stateside.

14. Here is NYT link... Anyone know of this company?

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/01/22/nyregion/22academy.html

<Alutiiq Security and Technology, an Anchorage, Alaska, company, will be providing the guards, subcontracting with Wackenhut Services of Florida to provide additional guards. Both firm names will appear on the guards' uniform patches, with Alutiiq higher and bigger. Bruce Swagler, the contracts program manager for Alutiiq, said that though final figures had not been agreed on, he expected to provide West Point with 100 to 160 guards for $4 million to $5 million annually, which will pay for everything from offices to uniforms to weapons. Major Cassella said the contract should run through 2007.

Mr. Swagler added that the company, under a larger agreement with the Defense Department, was already providing private security guards at Fort Bragg in North Carolina and Carlisle Barracks in Pennsylvania, home of the Army War College. He expects to be rolling out private security guards to more than 10 other military installations in the spring.

There is a challenge to finding guards near West Point, Mr. Swagler acknowledged, what with the population in the general vicinity a little heavier on retired investment bankers than on the retired military personnel who often surround the military bases the company works with.
