NEW YORK, Jan 22 (Reuters) - The dollar gained ground on Thursday, with traders citing a rumor that Osama Bin Laden had been captured.

Some traders said they believed the rumor sprang from a planned joint U.S.-Saudi press conference on financing.

"There was some rumor -- the usual Bin Laden rumor that we had caught him again that came out, and some rumors of a joint Saudi Arabia/U.S. press conference ... which was an opportunity to take profits on the euro," said Grant Wilson, senior foreign exchange trader with Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh.

4. The Democrats should be sending the message

that whether or not Bin Laden is caught the damage has already been done because he has had the time to recruit and retrain enough terrorist. The only reason they will capture him is because he will feel that his work is done and he has an heir that is ready to take his place. If the Dems get that message out now the effect of the Repukes will be greatly dimished. Also they should be preparing the electorate with "bets" on when they will bring him out with the Saudi's. Remember the Iran hostages? That is what swang the tide to Regan, it was all orchestrated. Maybe the Dems can get a secret deal with the Saudi's?

but if memory serves me correctly they were released right before Regan was sworn in.

He had put the word out that we were going to bomb the shit out of them if they had not released the hostages by the time he was sworn in
