First Lady plans more involvement in presidential campaign
WASHINGTON (AP) -- With campaign 2004 in full swing, first lady Laura Bush is ready to apply "a grain of salt" to persistent Democratic criticism of her husband.

"I know this is our last campaign, whatever happens, and I think there will be a sense of nostalgia with that," Mrs. Bush said in an interview Thursday on CBS's "The Early Show.

(snip)

Mrs. Bush, who has recently stepped up her involvement in the campaign by making a host of trips, said she expects to be even more visible as the November election approaches.

"I already have done a lot of fund-raisers for Bush-Cheney 04 and I will continue to do fund-raisers," she said, "and I'm sure that as it gets down closer to the fall campaign, I'll travel more with him."

At least Nancy taught us to "just say no".

10. Maybe she can...
...pen some more fake, meter-impaired "poetry."

Rose are red
Violets are blue
Vote for George if you know
What's good for you.

Pledge your allegiance
Or he'll really be pissed
And Tom Ridge will put you
On the big no-fly list.

(Hey, it's supposed to be crappy!)

14. She has already done a lot of fund raisers that is for sure
they have not generally been in the news. They trot her out to say things like this when they want to take a swipe at another woman on the political scene. I have a feeling this is a swipe at Doctor Judy Steinberg Dean, who everyone knows, does not enjoy becoming a stump wife, as she has a medical practice and patients who depend upon her.

Just like Laura showed her jealousy when Hillary took away the limelight from her, and went to Afganistan and Iraq recently, she is now , it seems to me, being a Stepford bitch and assuming her very great importance to the election campaign of George-that's her job!-why what would he do without her?

and the homeless children instead of the rich and powerful adults.

19. We want Pickles! We want Pickles!
Now, why did she lie to us when she told us that George wrote her a love note referring to her as the lump in the bed?

I love Barney, and I enjoy Barney's videos, but I think this Xmas should be the last one that Barney spends in the White House.

20. I loved Tom Shales'
bitchy line in his review of the SOTU address that Laura looked hynotized as usual. Delicious and so true.

She has that weird, spaced-out look every single time I see her and when she speaks it is never above the level of vacuous platitudes. What has she been doing for the last three years? I like to see her go up against Gert Clark or Teresa Kerry in a debate...
