Blow to Blair as Iraq Weapons Hunter Says None Exist

LONDON (Reuters) - British Prime Minister Tony Blair (news - web sites), who has repeatedly insisted weapons of mass destruction would eventually be found in Iraq (news - web sites), suffered a setback Friday when the man hunting them said they did not exist.



Blair's office immediately issued a statement shrugging off the news.


"It is important people are patient and we let the Iraq Survey Group do its work," a spokesman said. "There is still more work to be done and we await the findings of that. But our position is unchanged."


ISG head David Kay, stepping down Friday as leader of the U.S. hunt for banned Iraqi weapons that replaced earlier U.N. inspections, said no weapons would be found.
