Michigan’s annual average unemployment rate in 2003 was 7 percent, according to preliminary figures from the state. That marks an increase from the 2002 average of 6.2 percent. It’s the state’s highest annual jobless rate since 7.1 percent in 1993.

The state's unemployment rate is up. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services says Ohio's rate increased to 6 percent in December, from 5.7 percent in November. Officials say the rate increased in December mostly because there were more holiday job seekers than available jobs.

Morgan County had the highest unemployment rate in December at 16.9 percent, and Holmes County had the lowest rate at 2.8 percent.

The number of unemployed workers in Ohio was 351,000 in December, up from 334,000 in November.

as poverty increases..drive through my town every day and see nothing but houses for sale, and businesses closing their doors..my sons restaurant is going under..he left, got the hell out of here, went to Seattle with his brothers to get the hell out of this state..I cant blame him, altho I miss them all...I am glad they got out of here...horrible horrible as so many people are so desperate..
Ill tell you one thing..every Friday I stand on the street corner with the pics of all the dead soldiers and signs to bring the troops home, and at first people sort of looked oddly at us..

No matter which political party owns the White House, keeping the true numbers of unemployed artificially low boosts the perception of job creation and economic growth.

The actual percentage of "unemployed" in the United States is 9.7 percent, up .3 percent from 2002.
