BSE fears spread to Canadian Forces in Kabul

KABUL - Canada has temporarily taken tonnes of U.S. beef off the menu at its main military base in Afghanistan because of concerns over mad cow disease.

The Department of National Defence issued the order to quarantine the meat after reviewing a recommendation by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

There's no evidence that the steaks, prime rib and other beef came from animals with bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE).

But the meat is being locked up in freezers until officials find out more about it, including the age and history of the cattle that were slaughtered.

Another must read is "Fast Food Nation". It doesn't have much about mad cow specifically, but it does a great expose of the food industry and what they do to the food we eat.

Google it then. It's probably one of the most active prion 'vectors' for BSE in the United States. It was one of the huge loopholes in the last set of BSE guidelines. It's one of the reasons so many countries aren't taking any meat from the US right now.

9. It is not as question of whether it can be passed to calves

It is a question of whether the calves are immediately infectious - all the evidence so far says no.

As for instructing people to "google it" - nice try. That's not how it works. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. It is up to the person making the claim to provide the documentation.
