Kay Warns Iraq Close to Civil War

In an interview with Tom Brokaw on NBC Nightly News, David Kay warned that Iraq is sliding towards serious internal violence that could quickly become a civil war unless those responsible exercise great wisdom and restraint.

Given the Bush Administration's track record .. as spelled out in James Fallows' new essay in The Atlantic.. I'd bet on things going from bad to worse in Iraq.

ALL testified that the likely scenario after an invasion of Iraq was that an invasion would precipitate a civil war.

Yet these fucking never-been-to-war chickenhawk assholes who did not win an election, not to mention a mandate, lied to Congress, lied to the American people, mishandled the invasion itself, got rid of General Shinseki for telling the truth,

accused General Zinni of being a TRAITOR!!!-- and put convicted felon Elliot Abrams in his place (who was pardoned by daddy bush, btw, for Abrams role as a right wing terrorist and collaborator in genocide.

These people should be in jail awaiting trial so that sane and responsible adults can restore sanity and dignity to America.

He said several times the attitude at the WH was something like, "No one really knows what will happen because of these policies, so why not just do something for our base?"

It struck me as a really anti-intellectual attitude, not merely discounting the advice of experts, but even doubting that there really even could be such a thing as an expert. "Who can know?"

Then I remembered the book "Trust Us, We're Experts", about how corporations pay people very well to set up phony research groups and put out reports and press releases giving their pseudo-expert opinion -- which just happens to be very corporate friendly. And I think, no wonder the Bushies discount real, learned advice, since they probably think all experts are are simply shilling for someone.
