Looks like a confrontation between the White House the relatively spineless 9/11 commission is brewing:

WASHINGTON -- The commission investigating the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks voted last night to seek a two-month extension of its May 27 deadline, setting up a possible confrontation with the White House and Republican leaders on Capitol Hill.

Commission spokesman Al Felzenberg said the bipartisan panel met after their public hearing yesterday and "reached a consensus that they need another 60 days to do their work."

An extension would require a vote by Congress and the signature of President Bush. GOP leaders and the White House already have spoken against the idea.

July 27. When would the report become public? Since I believe that the fix is in for *dubya, the timing of this report would come real close to election time. What do you wanna bet they get their extension?

5. I understand...
the report would become public then, though maybe there will be a battle over what gets censored that drags it past the election. There's also a two month period they are allowed after the deadline for addendum reports.

8. I bet they don't.
They do NOT want it out near the election. There will be no flowers and candy for Bush on this. Even if they don't finger the guilty bastard, he will be associated with a major breakdown of security. Not good for his sterling reputation as a terrarist fighter against evildoers.

2. Someone help me to understand....why does an "independent"
commission need permission from the pResident to do their work?

3. "Unrestricted" is to "independent" as...
"Healthy Forests Initiative" is to "conservation".

4. The closer to the election
the better. News will not be good for the White House. I hope they push this out until September. Make the failures of the Bush administration on 9/11 a big theme in the run up to November.

7. I want it to come out during the week of the GOP CONvention.
Bush, I imagine, wants it to come out on November 3rd.

6. Remember how quickly the Repubs got the Starr report on the Internet...
...in an effort to embarrass the President and sway public opinion?

One hopes this report will appear as quickly.

Much like the World Wrestling Federation show.
