Of those, 361 died as a result of hostile action and 158 died of non-hostile causes, the department said. snip

1. Press is downplaying US deaths
Local newspaper ran this story (6 US soldiers killed) on page 6 today, buried in an item which was headlined "United Nations Agrees to Send Team to Iraq".

2. It seems only military families are paying attention.
The rest of society seems to be indifferent to their plight. It's the national ego that gets people's attention, not the blood of its citizens.

4. I wake up every night in the middle of the night thinking about this
loss of life. I have great difficulty getting back to sleep as I know there is nothing I can do about the whole thing, so fretting over it at 2am is essentially self defeating. Nevertheless, I do fret over the turn this country has taken. It is barbaric and slimey and is evil, vindictive and greedy. All qualities that do not allow a human being to transcend and to grow in happiness. No way--we are all in this killing field where a man who has less than the average intelligence quotient, propells us all into the killing fields because HE wants something for himself and for his buddies. We do NOT need to be compliant to evil! He was NOT elected in the first place and we, as human beings, caring and concerned human beings, do not need to lend our names to the Bush lillling based on lies, the Bush killings based on greed, the Bush sleaze, and the Bush bullying.,

Get this godamm, cheap, stupid phoney, this strutting, palms facing backwards man dressed up in the glitzy pilot costume, complete with strapped in "package", obviously left there for the photo op, cheap, delusional idiot out of our house.

He is evil.

There are those in the country who protest and say they are "pro-life", but it seems that they are only "-pro-life" when it comes to subjugating a woman's right to choose and run her own family life--any woman all over the world, otherwise they are all for killing those "others" though, in the country George Bush decideds he covets. Then killing children, real born children and women and innocents is perfectly OK!

I heard a woman today on the C-span call in saying that George Bush is wonderful because he has given "those people" their freedom.

Sad

6. When will Americans wake up?
It pains me every time a new casualty count is released. So many deaths, and the deaths will continue until America wakes up to the reality that faulty intelligence has cost us so much in the loss of life. Bush bet it all on Iraq WMDs and his payout has been 519 dead Americans, dozens of dead coalition troops, thousands of injured American troops, and by some estimates 10,000 Iraqi civilian deaths.

His smug, arrogant cabinet does not care what average Americans think. Why aren't more people seeing through this bullshit?

As I've watched the Iowa and New Hampshire primaries, I've felt something I haven't felt in a long time: hope. Hope that come November, Bush will have has smirking ass sent back to Crawford, another one-term Bush presidency.

9. Look at Iraq Military and Civilians, murdered by U.S. service members
When will there be a Du thread like this? How much more is an american live worth? The Iraqis didn't invade the U.S.A., to kill Americans, but the U.S. service members did.
Don't they know now, what they are doing? They can desert, they can escape, but the Iraqis can't.
I understand somehow, what the DUers feel, when they hear that Americans are dying there, but in a way, thinking about their victims, thousands and thousands of Iraqis, and mostly civilians, who can't defend themselves and the way, they treat them. And we will never hear the truth about that. Invaders don't tell their crimes.

10. Amen. all deaths are tragic & Iraqi dead are under-reported
What to do?

I think most of us are familiar with this issue though and
iraqbodycount.org is thankfully trying to get the truth out.

12. There are more people paying attention now
The number of responses on these threads have grown, and are hanging around longer. If we are paying more attention then you can bet the public is too. We need to scream from the rooftops the ratio of the moron's* attendance of fund raisers to funerals. The fact that the dead and wounded come home in the dead of night. That every piece of legislation that adversely affects rhe American people is passed in the dead of night. The time preferred by criminals doing evil while good men sleep.

I think it's safe to add three more to this list, the man in the river and two helo pilots haven't been accounted for yet.

13. How do we know how many have died?
They say 519 but for all we know it could be double or triple that number, they sneak these bodies out of Iraq and into this country like they were toxic waste instead of fallen hero's, we need to start screaming impeachment,(OK no more caffeine today.)
