Obama Moves Nomination Acceptance Speech to Football Stadium (Official)
Edited on Mon Jul-07-08 08:38 AM by brooklynite
Source: Time Magazine

The Convention Committee announces Monday the Illinois Senator will accept his party’s nomination at Denver’s INVESCO Field Aug. 28.

The football stadium can hold more than 75,000 people compared to the Pepsi Center’s roughly 20,000 seats, allowing Dems to open the speech to the public.

DNC’s Dean: “By bringing the last night of the Convention out to the people, we will be able to showcase Barack Obama’s positive, people-centered vision for our country in a big way.”

Dean and Kansas Gov. Sebelius hold 12:30 pm ET media call on the location switch.

1. Link to another news story. They're reserving a block of "community" tickets for Coloradans:
http://www.myfoxcolorado.com/myfox/pages/News/Detail?contentId=6925999&version=1&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=3.2.1

"The Democratic Party is nominating a true change candidate this August, and it is only fitting that we make some big changes in how we put on the Convention," said Governor Howard Dean, Chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

The idea is to allow more people to witness the historic acceptance speech in person. The Pepsi Center's indoor arena setting cannot hold nearly as many people.

The DNCC announced Monday that a block of "community" credentials will be reserved for Colorado residents for the event at Invesco Field. Details about how to sign up and receive a "community" credential have not been released yet.

6. Freakin' genius
Between the football seating and the field itself, there will be more than 100,000 people there. I hope secutiry is ramped way up though. I don't trust the freepers.

2. Freepers have gone completely over the edge about this.
Check this thread for comparisons to Nuremburg, simply because Obama wants to speak to more people.

Freeperland is almost always insane, but this thread really shows off their brainlessness.

40. I'm afraid I've seen the sobriquet
While I agree it's quite out of line, I'm afraid I've seen the sobriquet of "cult" and "messiah" applied to both of the democratic candidates during the primaries. I've seen variations of it applied to candidates since I've been voting.

No one group of candidate's supporters appears to be innocent of it.

18. Their fear of Obama is beyond pathological.
Who raised these people? Vampires?

Those posts reach a level of racism I've never seen there before. There's no thinking going on in freeperland... just the smell of pure fear, a collective shitting of thousands of pairs of pants, a panicky grasping at straws to try to understand what is happening to their orderly "bush knows best so shut up and support the wiretapping, oil and the war" world.

The comparison to shitler is transparently Rovian. His feverish, fiendish mind is the only place something this sick and fetid could have been hatched.

3. Someone told me at the convention in Boston
Edited on Mon Jul-07-08 09:14 AM by Gman
that on Wednesday night, the last night of the convention, there were 30,000 packed into the convention center. We couldn't leave to go to the bathroom and come back because the fire martial had said the place was overcrowded. And that was the indoor facility.

This will be absolutely awesome and it's a complete stroke of pure genius.

This was posted upthread, but it bears repeating. ANd it bears reminding the MSM of this fact. I doubt that they'll piss over the idea once they're reminded that its exactly what JFK did in 1960.
