Conyers may hold hearings, but plans no action on impeachment
Source: Raw Story

All Rep. Dennis Kucinich wants is a chance to present his case. The Ohio Democrat has made a crusade of his efforts to impeach George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, only to be ignored and ridiculed by many of his fellow lawmakers.

While House Speaker Nancy Pelosi still sees the prospect of actually booting the president from office as "off the table," discussing the idea now at least seems OK...

Maybe Dennis can loan him one of his cajones? :(

6. Conyers has done some good things in his long career
I used to live in his district. He took up some unpopular causes, on principle. One was the sexual abuse of female inmates in Michigan prisons under the Engler administration (although it's a problem that really can't be pinned on one politician, that particular administration tried to keep Conyers from visiting the inmates). I respect him for shining a light on a problem that no one really wanted to acknowlege.

His wife is a stupid, corrupt woman, and is tainting him with her scandals, but before he married her, he was a stand-up liberal.

It could be that he knows he doesn't have the votes for impeachment (and he never has had the votes), and that he recognizes the futility of impeaching Bush when he's going to be out of office in less than 6 months.

8. Monica Conyers...
How could such a dignified man end up with such a raving lunatic? What was he thinking??? If her involvement in the latest city council scandal proves to be true, John Conyers is going to be busy trying to keep her dumb butt out of prison.

13. Some of them are more than enablers. They are accomplices.
Nancy Pelosi, Jane Harman, Rockefeller, Dianne Feinstein come to mind. (See Glen Greenwald's expose at Salon.com)

Not to mention Lieberman...

12. what a shock huh? NOT
I will always admire Kucinich, the rest that stood in the way will be remembered for their poor choices too,and they will not be able to escape that reality.

15. Maybe Barbara Lee? But that's the extent of heroes
though I like Dodd and Leahy on the Senate side.

16. Yes, I mistakenly left them out
Also Barbara Boxer.

I have the ultimate respect for Dodd. At least he speaks up.

But where are the others?

19. Has Conyers done anything at all since he became chair of the Judiciary Committee?
I can't recall on significant thing that he has done except completely blowing off any Democrat that actually wants to prosecute criminals.

WTF?

20. The congressional Democrats WANT Bush around as a lightning rod
for American discontent until the election.

No way do they make any real effort to remove him, otherwise the public anger might fall on Congress instead.
