US fears Afghan blast booby-trap
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/3444601.stm

A blast that killed seven US soldiers in Afghanistan may have been caused by a booby-trap, the US military says.

The soldiers died while investigating a weapons cache in a village near Ghazni, east Afghanistan, on Thursday.

The exact cause of the blast had not been established and an investigation was continuing, said US spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Brian Hilferty.

The US has lost a number of troops while hunting militants in southern and eastern Afghanistan.

1. Isn't our military saying it was an accident?
I was listening to the news on M Malloy, and they said the military is reporting it as an accident.

Too tired. Going to bed.

2. Sure, a week later the "truth" comes out
on page 3001 of the paper. It should have be obvious to ... oh you know, that this is what must have happened in the first place. This has been the case with just about every one of the helicopter ones.

3. Perhaps it was a "non-traditional" booby trap.
Let's ask Condi about it.

4. The accident story sounds fishy to me
My first thought was that they were led into a trap, then a bomb was detonated, which sent the whole place up. Especially with the attacks on the Canadian and British soldiers happening in the same week. It could be that many in Afghanistan are growing tired of the western presence, with no apparent progress on helping to rebuild their state.
