Bush Seeks More Money for Missile Defense
WASHINGTON - The Bush administration is seeking a big increase in spending for missile defense next year, setting the program on course to have a bare-bones system in place by the end of this year and up to 30 interceptors on land and at sea by the end of 2005.

The money is part of a proposed $401.7 billion Pentagon (news - web sites) budget that doesn't include money for ongoing operations in Iraq (news - web sites) and Afghanistan (news - web sites). Officials last year went back to Congress for $87 billion beyond their budget to fund those missions, and documents obtained by The Associated Press show they expect to have to ask for money beyond this new budget as well.

Maginot Line in the sky. I prefer Lucy in the sky ....cheaper.
I wonder if our brain-deprived commander in thief and cohorts know what the Maginaot Line was.

2. Last year's budget was supposed to have...
... insured deployment in 2004. Methinks this is money for ship-based systems, additional to the original amount to deploy in Alaska, but would have to check.

Nothing like a boondoggle, eh?

Cheers.

3. It's SOP for a spoiled prick who never earned a dime on his own.
Shrub thinks the US treasury is his own personal checkbook with 'overdraft protection' and no limits. Some people think he's a truly evil sonofabitch and others believe he's actually insane (crazier than a shithouse rat is a pretty good metaphor) - I think both.

And there's also the theory that he's just a puppet with not the first clue...there may be a "point of light" in that assessment, but in the final analysis, "what's the difference?"

There's an incompetent lying MF in the white house and that needs fixing. ASAP.

Get out your old copy of _Night of Camp David_. Read it again.

5. A two-step approach...
if you cut military spending in half, and then use the rest of this money for deficit reduction..you're already halfway to a balanced budget. The second step would require repealing shrub's tax cuts so that we would actually be funding the remaining defense spending, rather than borrowing it.

Doing this would require that politicians get the most out of these remaining dollars, and will make them think carefully about when and where it is appropriate to use military force. It would also require that we work with other nations in fighting the most costly campaigns.
