Poll: Women and men don't see eye-to-eye on Palin
Posted: 06:00 AM ET

From CNN Deputy Political Director Paul Steinhauser

WASHINGTON (CNN) — When it comes to support for Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin, a new national poll suggests men and women don’t see eye-to-eye.

A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey out Tuesday morning indicates that 62 percent of men questioned have a favorable opinion of the Alaska governor, nine points higher than women. In the poll, conducted Friday through Sunday — entirely after then end of the Republican convention, 23 percent of men have an unfavorable view of John McCain’s running mate, seven points lower than women.

The gender gap is also apparent when it comes to whether Palin is qualified to serve as president if needed. Fifty-seven percent of male respondents in the poll said Palin was qualified, 14 points higher than women. A majority of females polled, 55 percent, said that Palin is not qualified to serve as president.

It appears that the Palin gambit is not paying off for McCain with women. On the other hand, what is wrong with men?

8. It IS the thing between the legs ...
She isn't "dazzling" but she is what would be called a "honey pot" ...

She is woman who has channeled her sexuality in a way that it brings men in. I can tell you I get that little hit from her.

I am VERY encouraged about the women numbers, my gut sense with her all along is that she is the kind of woman that women do not particularly like, who made this pick? A half senile 72 year old who has, not that the media will ever let it come to air, a strong reputation as a "playboy."

6. It is the 'qualified to be president' part that gets me.
She simply isn't qualified. So "Fifty-seven percent of male respondents in the poll said Palin was qualified," while 55 per cent of women responded that she is not qualified. You might think this is a completely subjective question, but it isn't. There is plenty of evidence already available to demonstrate that on a more or less objective basis, Palin is perhaps the least qualified major party candidate for the vice presidency in modern history.

9. Men lose 10 points of IQ when a good looking women
comes in the room. Here is what is weird. If most of these men were hiring qualified psotions both Bush and Palin wouldn't make it past the first interview. Palin would be screened out by HR and Bush would make one interview and he would be gone. It is amazing that people would vote for these tools.

The same group of dopey Men that support her now for MILF reasons are going to be very turned off when she talks more and continues to come off more and more as a smarmy, bitchy, snide, angry woman who wants to order Men around.

I know that sounds ridiculous on it's face but a lot of those Men are trapped in a different era and once they get past their hormones they're not going to like Palin at all.

10. Judging from the guys I heard this morning . . .
There's a local talk show (tends to be middle of the road, entertains all sides of issues). Asked guys to call in this morning with their opinions. I was bemused, a bit stunned, at how many men thought Palin was HOT HOT HOT. Said that "normal" men would follow her anywhere, do anything for her. Then came the arguments that she had all this "executive experience", that Obama had a chance to change things in the Senate, but didn't. Even the normally neutral male show hosts were flummoxed by these callers, kept reiterating "So, you're voting for her because she's good-looking? REALLY???"

And they say WOMEN are stupid??

15. Well hell, why don't we just run Angelina Jolie next time?
I honestly don't get this "Palin is hot" crap. I can find a half dozen women living within a block or two of me who are more attractive! As an illustrator, I've spent much of my career studying what makes any person or thing attractive to us. While Palin has a fairly symmetrical face it's far from ideal. Her eyes are a bit crossed, and that's very distracting. She's hardly got the ideal feminine figure either with that somewhat squat, boxy frame of hers. Scarlett Johansen she ain't. Nope, I just don't see the allure there.

26. Too many men are blind when looking at women.
They might check out her face and if it isn't hideous they might check out her rack and then her butt. If they all pass the minimum with a little extra in their preference area then everything else doesn't matter. The question is how long after this do they start considering her intelligence and whether they really want anything to do with this mistake?

My analysis of women is a bit different. For instance... I can't stand Elizabeth Hasslecrock!! Or Brittany Spears.

I hadn't heard that. Not about "women" in general. Maybe about a few rock stars.

That seems like a "Taliban" point of view.

Men, on the other hand, at least some, can be dumbed-down somewhat by hormonal response. First-hand knowledge on this one.

children how to reason, how to judge people.

Women see through her. There are enough stories going around that show her ability/heed to manipulate. Her decisions are all about her. And maybe you can throw in her religion which appears to be down and dirty as it relates to agenda and those who don't agree with her. Just like Bush. However, there are stories that she does back down when there is a groud swell of people opposing her. Unlike Cheney.

She is one manipulative babe.

Can you imagine Cheney winning on his war to keep his papers private saying that he is part of Congress? Can you imagine a wild and free from documentation Palin? (Should Cheney ever really leave his position.)

18. The advantage among men may be in line with something that
a professor of personnel management once told me. She said that when it came to teachers, bosses, or other female authority figures, men typically prefer someone who is either "hot" or motherly.

Since Sarah Palin is a mother who (evidently--I can't see it) is considered "hot" by many men, you have your explanation.

On the other hand, maybe they just prefer McCain's tough guy image of 30 years ago and like the louts you knew in high school, hate intelligent people, especially those with darker skin.

28. I think for essentially conservative
males it allows them a twofer: they get to vote for a woman, and thus show they are "progressive;" while simultaneously voting for one who reinforces an inordinate number of sexist stereotypes ( the women behind the power, the "hockey mom" and woman as "innate childbearer," running for the second/support slot).

By touting her supposed drive, they also get to reinforce the "we don't need equal rights legislation or affirmative action. Look what a conservative woman can do." In short, they get to double dip on just about everything. That she is, to some, attractive is also part of the package. It isn't about their attraction to her, so much as it is that she is attractive, feminine, in a sort of safe, traditional way.

Either that or they are just shitheads. Either works for me, but something has to explain it.

McCain Gains Momentum in New Poll

Monday, September 8, 2008; 8:43 PM -

Sen. John McCain has wiped away many of Sen. Barack Obama's pre-convention advantages, and the race for the White House is now basically deadlocked at 47 percent for Obama and 46 percent for McCain among registered voters, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll. The presidential contest is also about even among those who are the most likely to vote in November: 49 percent for McCain, 47 percent for Obama.
snip....
Many of the shifts toward McCain stem from gains among white women, voters his team hoped to sway with the pick of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his vice presidential candidate. White women shifted from an eight-point pre-convention edge for Obama to a 12-point McCain advantage now. . .

37. Men's support gives Palin edge in latest poll
Source: CNN

A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey out Tuesday indicates that 62 percent of men questioned have a favorable opinion of the Alaska governor, nine points higher than women.

The gender gap is also apparent when it comes to whether Palin is qualified to serve as president. Fifty-seven percent of male respondents said Palin was qualified, 14 points higher than women. A majority of women polled, 55 percent, said Palin is not qualified.

"A majority of women say yes, but it's close; men are slightly less likely to see those questions as fair game," said CNN polling director Keating Holland.

"In a hypothetical race with no running mates, Obama gets 49 percent and McCain gets 48 percent," he said. "In the real world, the McCain/Palin ticket and the Obama/Biden ticket are tied at 48 percent apiece, indicating that the running mates bring virtually no votes to the ticket by themselves."

the same type of campaign as Kerry and he's going to lose! The America people are stupid! George W. Bush's presidency proves that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

A nice looking woman who can hunt, dress, and cook her kill.

51. There must be some SERIOUSLY desperate guys out there!
I mean, okay, she isn't that bad when she "plasters on the makeup like a trollop", as McCain has been quoted, but voting for her by looks? Just WHAT kind of beer advertisement got them thinking - wait, most of them do, never mind.

The GOP found someone far less qualified than Dan Quayle, but Bush's time is up - so now they found someone less qualified than THE SHRUB! But wait, she's hot and has librarian glasses (I'll at least agree with the glasses thing) so I HAVE to vote for her, uh, yeah, and that old guy she picked as a running mate.

This is really all the article reveals about the morons who apparently make up a substantial percentage of our country. No wonder the rest of the world laughs at the US now.

55. The dominatrix Sarah Palin is trying to seduce independent voters.

Sarah Palin is trying to seduce independent voters. But she comes across like a whip-wielding mistress

...

Never mind that on the issues, Palin and McCain are indistinguishable from George W. Bush. Never mind that the GOP's policies have failed and its ideology is incoherent. Never mind that McCain's speech at the convention was pathetically empty, little more than a display of his torture scars and a bombastic promise to "fight" the very practices he has happily supported as a loyal GOP foot soldier.

No, none of that matters. Because Palin's a woman, and even more, a babe, suddenly she and her party have been magically transformed into fresh-faced reformers. Like Kafka's "Metamorphosis" in reverse, the giant, hideous beetle that was the GOP has suddenly been reborn as a vigorous youth -- one that even claims to be a "maverick."

At a conscious level, the Republican duo are masquerading as reformers who will "clean up Washington." But their unconscious appeal may be more important. By choosing Palin, McCain and the GOP have elbowed the Democrats off the dance floor. In a bizarre turnaround, the uptight Republicans are suddenly the party of sex, women, fun. They're all about spontaneity, bucking convention, letting their freak flags fly. If it feels good, do it! Let Mr. Dignified, Obama, drone on about the economy or the resurgence of the Taliban or whatever boring downer of a subject he wants to lecture us on. Let that long-winded Joe Biden carry us back to that Poli Sci 201 class we fell asleep in. Hey, did you check out Palin's rack? It's party time in America!

...

For the die-hard Republicans who lusted over Palin at the convention, her whip-wielding persona was a turn-on. You could practically feel the crowd getting a collective woody as Palin bent Obama and the Democrats over, shoved a leather gag in their mouths and flogged them as un-American wimps, appeasers and losers. "Drill, baby, drill!" the chant ecstatically repeated by the GOP faithful during Rudy Giuliani's speech, acquired a distinctly Freudian subtext after Palin spoke. The more Palin drilled the Democrats, the more hotly the base yearned to drill her. (We will leave it to shrinks to determine whether the GOP hardcore has the hots for Palin because she's reaming the Democrats, or because authority-worshippers tend to have secret fantasies of being reamed themselves.)

58. As a fellow man I've gotta say
Edited on Tue Sep-09-08 12:05 PM by Enthusiast
men, as a group, are the most uninformed and misinformed voters out there. Millions of men listen to Rush Limbaugh every day and he is their primary source of information, Rush and Fox News. Then, armed with a head full of misinformation, smoke & mirrors, outright lies, exaggerations and other nonsense talking points, they go on to infect their friends. This happens mostly in the workplace, but also in every watering hole across the country.

How widespread is this phenomenon? As an exercise get on any random motorcycle forum on the internet. Read the 'off topic' forum. Websites where hunting or gun enthusiasts gather, same thing. Any internet site with themes appealing to men are rampant with anti Obama rhetoric. I have fought back the best I can but it is like beating your head against a brick wall.

Give this a look.

59. well which is it? one post says it's women, this was says men
or maybe this info is b.s. and reflects a post-convention bounce.

I don't know one woman who likes or would support Palin. A lifetime republican female who doesn't follow politics but has run a biz all her life said to me -

well, if she can't deal with her family, how can she run a country?

Librarians (and thus the overwhelming majority of women in any academic field) will not support her.

So I have to assume her support is coming from people who have had their heads up their asses for 8 years. And this is why this nation is so close to eating the shit sandwich.

61. Any men who actually VOTE "with their little head instead of their big one" should have
their heads examined. The big one, that is. I wouldn't give a red rat's ass if Mrs Palin looked like a Victoria's Secret model, I'd still not vote for her. Jesus, what wrong with those guys?

If there are women out there who like Palin simply because she's a woman, and men out there who like her simply because they think she's a MILF, I say: these voters we don't need.

73. Two women of privilege
One who battled her way to the top and stuck with it, without the expressed support of everyone in her circle--the other a bimbo and tool who isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, who has slid by on both all the men in her life and family members. Another Bush in the making.

I don't give a fuck--Palin is a rat's ass compared to some Democratic women who have worked their whole lives to overcome the disadvantages of being a woman in a man's world. Curtsy pretty and cut that caribou up--the one you shot with a high powered rifle--for dinner.

78. Women may see her as Mary Lou or
Betty Lou, she has demonstrated that she's more than willing to use her position to help her family, anyone with teens in her kids' way will get chewed up to bits & that sweet-looking smile would likely stay on her face the whole time. Men are suckers for a pretty face, easy.

Pussies. Judge her on her fucking merits (which are laughable at best), not her looks. It's not like they're going to get to bang her if they vote for her or something. Give me a break.

84. women..
I think women are much more critical of other women than men are critical of women. Women are not as likely to give Palin a free pass and "go easy on her" as a man will.
