Thousands of Hondurans protest U.S.-led war in Iraq
unfortunately this awful AP wire report seems to be what there is on the story at the moment..

Thousands of Hondurans protest U.S.-led war in Iraq
Thursday, February 5, 2004
(02-05) 18:28 PST TEGUCIGALPA (AP)

Thousands of radical activists clogged the streets of five major Honduran cities Thursday to protest the U.S.-led war in Iraq and decry American "imperialism."

Organized by the Popular Block, a consortium of more than 50 student groups and leftist organizations, the demonstrations snarled traffic in the capital of Tegucigalpa as well as San Pedro Sula and Tocoa in the north of the country.

Protesters simultaneously took to the streets in the western city of Copan and in Comayagua in central Honduras.

"Es are against the politics that Washington has pushed on Honduras and the world," said Carlos H. Reyes, the Popular Block's coordinator. "We will fight until we stop American expansionism."

1. Why in the hell.....
Why in the hell aren't demonstrations going on HERE on a regular basis? Hondurans care more about justice and truth than we do?? WTF?

Given all of the news that's come out, confirming what most of us already knew, why hasn't there been mass demonstrations in D.C. calling for the heads of the Bush junta? I suppose the weather has something to do with it, but we're talking the future of our nation here.

I hope the protests scheduled for March 20(?) will be massive. We simply cannot wait until the RNC convention to make our voices heard. There's too much at risk. With Bush setting up his phony commission to investigate Iraq, the fascists are in full "cover up" mode. We must hold their feet to the fire.

Today, right now, call your reps in D.C., and demand a truly independent inquiry into the Iraq war build-up (the call is free: 800.648.3516) We cannot allow Bush and Cheney to subvert the process! Call every member of Congress to register your outrage, especially McCain's office! We also need to let Kerry's office know we want prosecutions!! No pardons for these war criminals!

3. I've spent a fair bit of time in Honduras, they know quite well how it is
to live in a quasi-fascist state. I was in Tegucigalpa in the early 70s on business, stayed at what apparently was the 'best' hotel there...I was in the restaurant one night and there was a big party going on behind a folding room divider that was open a foot or so in the middle. I was curious and walker over to peek in...a guy in uniform saw me and invited me to join them. So I did. I speak Spanish and they thought that was great, a gringo who they could talk with. I found myself sitting to a gentlemen who introduced himself by name but not by title. It was several minutes before I discovered he was the President. Had a great time but later found out he was pretty much hated by the regular people. Made me feel guilty for partying with him. :eyes:
