Some city or state should declare the USA Patriot Act to be "null, void, and no law, not binding upon the officers of our state/city".

They are in a hornet's nest of bad policy decisions. Is there one place they would want to be less than NYC?

It will be almost impossible for the press to avoid the demonstrations and outrage. No Osama, no Patriot act, no votes.

ps--My hometown said No to the Patriot Act, too. The only good Patriot Act is in the NFL.

12. Oct. 26, 2003 was the last demonstration against the Patriot Act.

I attended, wrote an article, and took some interesting pictures. At that time, it seemed likely Res. 909 would pass. (Actual name was Res. 0909-2003A.) It took a while, but now it has. New name: Res. 60-2004. A done deal. :party:

they are too busy reporting the really important stuff. wb11, 10oclock news last night, showed janet's breast at least 4 times.

our local news stations are just like our newpapers. tabloid.

you'd think the entire city is composed of grocery store checkout line tabloid gawkers.

nyt and wsj is only a hair better.

if they don't think it should be important to you, they won't print/air it. their bottom line is why something gets printed. so, if it "bleeds" or is sensational enough to grab your attention, that is what leads. the rest is just less bloody, or less sensational. very little has to do with the real problems bush and klan are causing and we, as a democracy, are going through.

The people of NYC now know that they were left out like bait for a tiger by the inept goons who dropped the security against al-Quada to bargain for an oil pipeline.

The people of NYC know that the EPA was directed to signal 'all clear' to open up Wall Street while the air was filled with poisen.

Even if not one outside protester was allowed near the convention, the Republicans will still be surrounded by 9,000,000 angry and vindictive New Yorkers who wish them harm for their crimes against the city.

This convention might make Chicago '68 look like a party.

16. I live in Manhattan, and my big concern on 9/11 was the air quality.

Who knew what could have been released by the buildings or the planes or the terrorists? I got home and closed all my windows (even though I knew this was probably silly). I kept waiting for info, but there was no mention of the air. It didn't seem to be a concern to anybody.

Another thing that struck me in the days following 9/11 was how recovering from 9/11 was treated by bush* as a local issue. Everything seemed to fall on the NYC rescue workers. There was hardly any indication the federal government was involved at all. When other tragedies have happened in the past, such as a severe hurricane in Florida, FEMA and the National Guard would be all over the place. Clinton would be down there the same day. Yet it took president asshole four days before he showed up for his photo op in NYC.

You're right about the RNC convention. It will be a huge event, and the demos are going to overwhelm what's going on inside.
