Powell says Iraq arms furore gets on his nerves
http://www.reuters.co.uk/newsPackageArticle.jhtml?type=worldNews&storyID=453945§ion=news

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Secretary of State Colin Powell has accused critics of politicising the United States' failure to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and said it is getting on his nerves.

"Yeah, it does get on your nerves when you see people trying to use this for straightforward political purposes," Powell said in a television interview on Friday.

<snip>

"But the President was absolutely right in what he did. And we were all standing behind him on this one," Powell told Fox Television's "The Sean Hannity Show."

1. Gets on his nerves?
Hey, those carpetbombs got on a lot of people's nerves ... and probably made some nerves scream in excruciating pain. If they lived long enough to survive the wanton destruction and indiscriminate terror.

He makes me sick.

35. Apparently, he doesn't know what all the fuss is about.
"Gee whiz, guys, cut us some slack. We just leveled a country, killed tens of thousands of Iraqis, destroyed the US credibility worldwide, spent $150B and sent 500+ of our own to unnecessary deaths."

And they're worried about poll numbers.

Where is the outrage by Bush and Powell? Why aren't we seeing anger and intolerence for being in this situation? The fact that they are defensive rather than furious about this is the answer to the "What Went Wrong" question the investigation is supposed to answer.

We already have the answer. Spare us.

Powell is not the only one in need of intervention. It is quite obvious that Rumsfeld is quite insane, and that Bush hears voices inside his head.

When a bunch of white collar mafiosos take over the United Fucking States and start killing people and lying about it! That's what fucking gets on my nerves!

And you know what really really gets on my nerves! When they have the fucking GALL to get on the air and say that people are using their anger for political purposes!

Fuck you, Colon, you treasonous criminal piece of shit!

May your legs be blown off by a roadside bomb as you triumphantly tour Iraq!

55. I hope his balls
are blown off during this triumphant tour which would lead to an hour long death spasm on an Iraqi street while Iraqi onlookers cheered on.
But since this "triumphant" tour is mythical and phantasmagorical to even imagine or consider EVER happening, my earnest wish for the above is merely a nice little vent.
Anyone horrified at it can, well, bite me. Be horrified by real horror, not fictional writing.

These people are shallow, primitive and dangerous. They think Pulp Fiction is a nice family drama. Senseless violence is just an arbitrary effect of accomplishing their political and financial goals.

23. Umm...about your avatar...
If that's who I think it is, I hate to point out that there's a certain general with an awful lot of blood on his hands from the Balkans who loves supporting the School of the Americas.

I feel awkward pointing that out in this thread but it also seems to be totally appropriate given the topic here. I'm sorry if you don't agree. I know it is a heatedly debated and difficult issue to bring up. Guess I'm guilty of outrage spillover.

Peace and please consider the parallels. You and I are on the same side.

24. No problem. I do see a moral difference.
There was a true genocide going on from all I've gathered.

I understand the military mindset - my dad was a nuclear physicist in the AF. What else did you do w/ a degree in N Phy in 1962? He moved into optics and was on the Star Wars project well before it got that moniker (NM triangle).
He is a hawk who always voted Dem (except for Reagan). He left the military and has been making a fortune in the private sector. He retired early a few months after 9-11. Many, Many high level military and research scientists did - massive brain drain as soon as they started waking up. Dad has been donating $ hand over fist.
He, and many of his friends feel duped. My dad was at first wary of having a possible military president, but as he checked out his record changed his mind.

Anyway, long story (sorry). I've donated to Dean, Edwards, Clark, and Sharpton. I met Kerry at a neighbor of my dad's house last summer in Abq - seemed OK, but quite the politician.

29. gets on his nerves because
his lies were the most obvious and the most flagrant. Do these people think we cannot read? It is as though they think no one in the whole of the UNited States, is aware of the news and the situation, so any lie will do and they will all get away with it. It is as if the people of the country do not exist. All that is necessary is to assume that seriouos looking face with knitted brow when being photographed behind Bush--as if Powell is the one that tells Bush what to do--you know, like the angel on the shoulder.

He knows it and his response is to get mad at those would expose the fact that indeed he did lie---many times. That way, it at least seems to some who would be intimidated, that one has some credibility and power.

Powell has lost his power-or rather, he gave it away-personally I don't think he really cares much. He is a rich man and will be richer once Bush is gone. All it took was a few years out of his life and some willingness to be used by Bush. Same for Michael. Set for life.

37. This man has no shame
and neither do the rest of them. How do intelligent and powerful people get so delusional? Is it because they are so isolated from the real world that they no longer have a clue? Delusional paranoids are very dangerous people, especially the ones that have access to the largest arsenal of WMD's on the planet.

In three short years Powell has gone from being a reasonable human to a total Bushbot. How does this happen to people? Is it something the OSP folks put in their water to keep them under control? Nothing makes sense anymore.

The scary part is when the leaders of the most powerful nation on earth have no regard for the rule of law, then it makes it almost impossible to expect anyone else to, either. When the US Secretary of State gets up and blatantly lies to the United Nations to make a case for going to war against a sovereign nation and the UN is powerless to stop this action, then there is no law and order in the world anymore. This is what Bu$hCo has strived for, for decades. This is the New World Order, or should we say Disorder?

47. How the mighty have fallen
Powell was once admired by both Dems and repugs alike. Now he has been reduced to nothing more than partisan hack.

In the article, what Powell fails to mention is that Bush politicized 9/11 first. I live in GA, and it blew my mind that during the mid-term senate elections that the GOP (Bush) aired an ad that had Max Cleland, a triple amputee in SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY, morphed with OBL. Sickening, and one of the lowest points in modern politics.

"The fraudulent boy-king was absolutely wrong in what he did. My fondest wish is to see him stand trial for war crimes alongside Slobbo," she went on to say.

I'm going to print this quote and keep it with me as I work on voter registration this summer. I'm sure it'll inspire me to register as many fucking people as I can to get this criminal gang of bastards out of office before they blow up the whole fucking world.

59. this is all he has left in order to salvage his own self image of his most
Edited on Sat Feb-07-04 05:39 PM by Marianne
important self. He has no recognition as a Secretary of STate and has made no outstanding contributions. He is not capable of making any, actually. He has always been a cardboard soldier. His son was appointed to a lucrative position in the government making him very happy and making him feel very secure.

Powell has not done one damn thing that is notable, or intelligent. People thought he was a sober, reflective moral sort of a guy--I submit that Powell was never that.

I submit that Colin Powell has nothing to brag about concerning human intelligence either. It seems to me he is near the bottom end of "normal" intelligence.

HE is looking out for himself--why else would he be staying with this criminal regime?

Because he has ethics?

that is really funny.

This guy has NO ethics--he is looking out for his own welfare but most of all, that of his son who benefitted from the nepotism bestowed upon him--the rampant nepotism/bribes of George Bush who with one appointee, seized Powell by the balls.

And Michael sits prettily in a nice big office, decidedly attacking Janet Jackson for her subliminal, almost, exposure of her breast at the half time in the Super Bowl.

Hell, he did not get in on Ashcroft's draping of the bare breasted, aluminum statue of the woman in the Capital building, so this is the next best thing.

How wonderful that an extended education will allow these, all of these highly educated people to rise up in protest and anger at the human breast!

, with vows to use the powers of their office to wipe it out whenever it appears in all it's glory!

, in order to justify their tax payer salary.

Powell will NOT make waves and jeapardize his son's position. That is the most prudent thing to do for one's own survival. After Bush is ousted he will be sitting high on the hog and could care less what anyone else says about him.

The son's position comes before his oath, --comes before the people of this country, comes before anything. And that is how it goes with Powell.

61. If he doesn't want it politicised, why the Sean Hannity Show?
That show is about as "straight forward political" as you can get. I had hoped Colin Powell would offset the influence of the neoconservatives on Bush but instead he has been virtually coopted by them. Damn shame. Actually it sounds to me as if he is suffering a little "buyers remorse" and he is annoyed because the critics keep reminding him that he bought a lemon. Resignation is the only thing that will save your soul now Colin.

62. Powell, of all people
Should really keep his mouth shut. The war was predecated by his "compelling" speech to the UN, that he knew at the time was full of lies.

"He (Saddam Hussein) has not developed any significant capability with respect to weapons of mass destruction. He is unable to project conventional power against his neighbors."

HINT: It was Colin CreepyFuckingLiar Powell in Egypt in 2001.
