Josh Marshall: The Fix Is In -- No subpoena power for Commission
February 6, 7 p.m.

Here's the executive order the president just signed authorizing his commission which he "established for the purpose of advising
the President in the discharge of his constitutional authority under Article II of the Constitution to conduct foreign relations, protect national security, and command the Armed Forces of the United States, in order to ensure the most effective counter-proliferation capabilities of the United States and response to the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and the ongoing threat of terrorist activity."

The commission doesn't appear to have any subpoena power, only the right to "full and complete access to information relevant to its mission as described in section 2 of this order."

2. "Purpose to advise President?" It is not even set up for the correct......
purpose. Subpoena powers wouldn't matter - the whole purpose of a panel is not even correct... surprise, surprise!

3. Subpoena power to investigate a blow job, but not 9/11 or Iraq?
You know this is a set up. If Americans don't vote these evil beings out of office they deserve whatever comes their way.

4. Dems must develope spines
If the Dems don't fight this time with everything they've got they will lose. They CANNOT allow the game to be set up by the Rethugs. This time they must step up to the plate and hit home runs, not bunt.

5. Subpoena power is not specifically excluded.
For the commission to have "full and complete access to information relevant to its mission..." subpoenas could, in theory, become necessary.

The real problem is that the chimp will appoint the members and control the commission.

6. Complete and utter Bushshit.
Any Dem on that panel ought to be ashamed of themselves! It has no teeth, and concludes well in to 2005 and really says not a whole hell of a lot about reasons for "What went wrong." This is just more of the same shit that pisses me off even more to fight Chimpy and Limpy to the core.

8. I spent all day yesterday calling every Sen and Rep in my state
Both the Republicans and Dems..call them! let them have it..demand an INdependent investigation NOT appointed by bUsh...
The republicans on the phone were quite dismayed to hear me call and demand it as a voter..but were very interested , and listened..I said
"Clinton didnt pick Ken Starr to investigate him, and now bUsh wants to pick his own investigation team? THIS looks like a cover up and a whitewash..and I demand the Senator/Rep in your office get on the floor and recognize this is a cover up and has NO credibility with the public"
I didnt let any of them know I was a Dem, I spoke as an Independent.
Call them all...email them, write them all...BOTH parties on both sides need to hear it
Remember...the Repubs who are in your state Rep and Senate need to hear the outrage over bUsh picking his own jury ..
They have the majority in the House and Senate, so go after THEM as a citizen..believe me, they listen when you do. They know bU$sh poll numbers are for shit right now.

11. Your state's reps should listen to you regardless
of your party affiliation...if they know what's good for them, anyway. Great work on the phones and emails.

12. My state reps listen to me...
I know they do, because about a month after they've received my e-mails and phone calls, they'll send me a nice letter telling me how valuable my opinion is. Unfortunately, they never agree with me. Hell, I keep doing it anyway! Contacting them is a little less useless than doing nothing.

10. there's something wrong with that mp3...
Billy, I listened to that in my browser (latest Quicktime for Windows, strong broadband connection, up-to-date hardware/software) and it began getting all jumbled - I thought maybe it was purposely made foreboding and cryptic but I advanced the playback bar and it continued to play strangely. Maybe you should take a look at it - I'll check again later...

13. The truth
will have to get out the hard way. Just like these long 3 1/2 years under this dictator.

Whistleblowers are a plenty I'm sure.

This is a crime and the public know it.
