Lack of jobs a major issue for electorate in Michigan

Flint, Mich. -- Charlotte Spooner voted for George W. Bush in 2000.

Then her husband lost his job. Three times. Spooner, 42, who home-schools her children and regards herself as a conservative, hasn't decided which Democrat to support in today's Michigan caucus. But she is certain whom she will vote for in the general election in November.

"Anybody but Bush. Michigan is falling apart, and he don't care,'' Spooner said Friday.

<snip>

Meanwhile, manufacturing jobs -- the sort relied upon in places like Michigan, where the unemployment rate is 25 percent higher than the national average -- declined for the 42nd consecutive month.

2. I am glad she is ABB but
she is home-schooling her kids and says "he don't care". I would hope a mom who home schools her children has better grammar!

Oh well, one more bu$h voter, bad grammar of not, is OK with me!

3. Bush&Co think they can cook the numbers and talk up the economy
and everyone will stop worrying about being unemployed or underemployed. I don't get it.

8. The 112,000 new jobs created last month is smoke and mirrors
If you go to the actual BLS pages you find that the majority of new jobs were created in seasonally adjusted retail jobs. But since retail did not hire for December, they did not have to layoff for January, but the seasonal adjustment factor was not adjusted for this fact making it appear there are new jobs. All the new nonexisting jobs being cheerleaded by you and the GOP is all propaganda.

You are repeating all the defeatist propaganda of the rabid right even right down to the "Hillary will take over the world" mantra.

7. Grand Rapid MI has a 7% unemployment rate and that is an
area which is heavily republican.

My father in law told us that its really bad in Michigan and its getting worse.

Bush hasn't done shit to help out anyone but his contributors..notice how Lay has yet to do the perp walk.

9. Major issue -- MAYBE NOT!
We, the US people, don't listen to poor people. They are considered losers and they themselves might not even vote. Voting as a homeless person is not easy. Voting as a poor person with difficult transportation, changing locations, redrawn district numbers will add up to fewer Democrats.

Fewer jobs leaves fewer union people, fewer union people with a seperate source for news, editorializing, and error correction.

Even this Charlotte may vote for Bush despite her own economic health against abortions, gays, and porn; OR, for vouchers, prayers in schools, and "under God;" and even dubious: tax cuts, smaller government, individual responsibility, and fiscal responsibility.

We will be left with more of those secure in their jobs voting along with previous potential union people shunted into non-union non-news-sourced voters.

Major issue -- NOT!
